Where's my ice cream?

The Date 3/10/06 9:00p.m.

The Place Delmonico's, Las Vegas

The Setup

You play the moment over and over in your head thinking of the day that you will ask the women you love to marry you. All the planning, waiting, planning and waiting some more finally pay off when she becomes speechless and overcome with joy. We decided to take a little vacation to Las Vegas and go to our favorite restaurant Delmonico’s. I had everything planned out to a T, the hotel, rental car, air fare. Throughout the entire planning for my proposal, I think I was most nervous about asking her parents and making sure she didn’t find the ring I had packed in my suitcase. I had been planning this with the staff at the restaurant for a while. When we arrived at the restaurant, I asked Jill to buy us a couple of drinks from the bar. I then went to the hostess stand, told them who I was, met with the manager (he was expecting me) and gave him the ring. We went over quick details and by the time Jill got back with our drinks and I had time to control my pulse, breathing and blood pressure we were seated. The original plan was to have a dessert insert printed up and put in her menu asking her to marry me. But here came the problem. SHE WOULDN'T GO TO THE BATHROOM. I have never seen a humam consume so much liquid before in my life. They had her water glass full at all times. They made sure she always had a drink on the table. After about a gallon of liquid, she finally had to go to the bathroom. As soon as she was out of sight, I was swarmed by MANY members of the wait staff, as word spread very quickly about what was about to happen. I told my waitress that I wanted the ring brought out with our dessert order. Jill came back to the table, we finished our meal and placed our dessert order. They have the best homemade ice cream. Jilly ordered the chocolate and I ordered the vanilla...how ironic. They put the covered tray's in front of us and Jill had an odd look on her face. Propably trying to figure out why they covered our ice cream. They uncoverd the plates and on her plate wasn't her chocolate ice cream, but a wooded ring box. She looked at the box, looked at me, looked at the box, looked at our waitress, looked at the box and looked at me again. I don't think she really understood why her ice cream wasn't there and you could tell by the look on her face that she was confused. I got up out of my seat and I sat next to her. I put my arm around her and I told her how much I loved her and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. She looked back down at the box and looked back up at me and then she started crying. I think she finally realized what was happening. I took the box off of her plate, opened it up, took the ring out and said, "Jillian Ryan Fitzpatrick, will you marry me.?" With tears rolling down her cheeks she shook her head yes and I gave her a hug and a kiss. The entire restaurant started applauding. When she finally stopped crying long enough to breathe, she gave me her official yes. She eventually got her ice cream. But I don't think it really mattered. One thing i do know, it was the best chocolate ice cream she's ever had.
