Why don't you have any stickers on you??

When? September 4, 2006

Where? The Boardy Barn, Hampton Bays

If any of you have actually ever been to the Boardy Barn you would know it's not the ideal place to pick up a date. A 2+ hour long wait on a Sunday afternoon to get beer poured, thrown, and spilled on you, along with smiley face stickers wearing sunglasses to stick on yourselves or others all over and i mean ALL over, all while jamming to cheesy 80's music at the price of $20 per person which actually winds up costing $70 if you add in the round-trip train ticket, and taxi fares. To an outsider, the BB sounds like a freak show, but to it's known regulars it's simply heaven on earth.

So anyway, it was Labor Day and I had just worked 9-2. My friends have been begging me to go to this place for the longest time and i finally agreed to go, even though I was exhausted from working late the night before too. Yes, it was my first time there and they made sure everyone knew i was a "BB Virgin". This means anyone who is anyone is entitled to purposely spill their beer on you at any given time. It's some insane tradition. So low and behold there I was drenched in beer using the rip in my jeans as a sticker dispenser. At this point, the night was nearing and I had to pee SO BAD. Once out of the bathroom, I realized that my friends had disappeared. Then this girl, realizing that I looked puzzled, said to me "Come with me, I think your friends are over here."

She indeed was right and took me to my friends who were talking to three guys, one being Jeff. I was introduced to Pat and Ryan, who were friends/neighbors of my friends, but not Jeff because he was a friend of Pat & Ryan. I remember thinking WOW this guy is REALLY hot!! We were all laughing and having a good time (probably at my expense) when I looked up and everyone was gone except for Jeff. His friends had taken off but Jeff just stayed. He only had 1 sticker on him and i asked him why he didn't have any more stickers on him he said he didnt know, so I put another one on him :) We small talked about our birthdays and ages (being 10 yrs and 3 weeks apart) and how he drove all the way from Deer Park to be here. Then he said he had to go because his friends were waiting for him because he was driving. He asked me if I had my phone on me so that he could give me his number. In my head I was thinking "What?! Shouldn't he be asking me for MY number?" So such I said outloud and he said he would have but he left his phone in the car. It felt weird taking his number (I had never done that before!) but I did anyway.

3 days later (that's the rule right?) I called him and he asked if I wanted to go with him and his friends that friday night! He picked me up and we went to Caseys, a bar in Westhampton. The whole night we wound up talking by ourselves at the bar til it closed at 4am! And that was the official day we started dating, September 8, 2006 :)

My story just goes to show that you can find love at the unmost of likely places when you're not looking for it.

There are two funny things about this story:
1. He doesn't drink
2. The girl that found me when I came out of the bathroom was his ex-wife!! Thanks Kathy!! lol

P.S. That night he put the sticker that I stuck on him on his bedroom door and it's been there ever since!
