The Giraffe is tied outside, you can have him for Christmas

| The Setup |
The story goes that upon walking back from Class one night around November 2007, Russ passed the New York Times building (on 8th ave I think) and had decided that he was going to propose to me. At the time we only have one car so he borrowed my car one afternoon a few days later while I was at work to go "Christmas shopping" where he bought my ring and hid it very nicely in almost plain sight. And no, I did not see it or know about it until I was given the ring. |
The Ring ![]()

It is engraved "Past Prestent Future" with small diamond between each word on the inside of the ring
Now you need a little background information:
When we walked to John Jay we would pass Toys R Us in Times Square where there is and electronic board with Geffory the Giraffe (their mascot). It was life like and for years I told Russ I wanted a giraffe, but not any giraffe, that one. So I made it a point to say that the giraffe was mine every time I passed that store.
This year (2007) for Christmas, impatient me, constantly asked what my Christmas gift was and the answer was always "A giraffe, he's tied up in the backyard". Well maybe he wasn't tied to the tree in the back, but I did get a giraffe (I named hopscotch) for Christmas along with my ring.
The Proposal
While I was sleeping on the night of December 15th 2007, Russ carefully placed a Toys R Us giraffe behind his guitar and hid the ring with the box under his pillow. (that must have been uncomfortable to sleep on)
We woke up this Sunday Morning and Russ brought me into the living room. Behind his guitar there was the stuffed giraffe. As I picked up the giraffe and turned around, there was a very bright and shiny ring waiting for me in his hand. Yes, we were engaged at 7:00 am. Come on, who else would do such a thing?
