Lashing Out: The Eye-ssentials For Eye-Catching Photos

by Mia Bolaris-Forget (Staff Writer NYCityWeddings)

We’ve all heard about batting our big beautiful lashes at our guy and we all know about giving him those “bedroom” eyes. And, that kind of “drama” is exactly what brides want for their peepers to be picture perfect.

Still, a good squeeze from a quality curler and a few healthy strokes of the mascara brush, and “Voila”, magic.

Still, this “miracle growth”, is often accompanied by some “growing pains”, since it may not have the “longevity” we’ve gone to great lengths to achieve.

In fact, mascara is prone to run, smear, smudge, and give us spider lashes (especially as we shed tears of joy and laugh so hard we cry, in celebration of our big day.

Of course there’s always falsies, but “they” can fall off.

Now, modern “technology” gives brides the ability to “extend themselves” without mascara or false eyelashes, but with a new procedure that not only promises to give you a gorgeous and glamorous glance, but lashes that are longer, stronger, thicker and clump-free. Plus, eyelash extensions promise to keep a fresh, natural look all day long.

Ready to take advantage of this eye-portunity? Here are some things you’ll need to know first.

· Eye extensions can cost up to $500 with interval touch-ups (recommended every two weeks) running about $50 to $100.

· How long can you go? According to experts you can extend you lashes anywhere from 6 to 14 millimeters in length, with a full set of extensions lengthening you lashes by up to 50 percent and thickening them by between 30 and 50 percent. Furthermore, you’ll have a choice of various colors to choose from. Lash enhancements are available in shades of black, brown, purples and even reds.

· These eye-catching lashes, like most good things, take time. In fact you’ll need about 2-hours to have them applied. The procedure begins with you lying down giving the pro and opportunity to tape off your bottom lashes, which are left out of the “royal treatment”.

Next, about 25 to 40 individual silk lashes are dipped (one by one) into a special bonding agent and added on to your individual lashes. But, the procedure, though tedious and pain-free and for some quite relaxing.

· Long-lasting lasting means keeping your “new” set free of water, oils or creams for the fist 24 to 48 hours. And, if you follow your technicians instructions on lash-care, you can expect them to last past your wedding and even past the honeymoon. In fact, the standard is about 4 to 6 weeks. Still, experts suggest a maintenance visit every two weeks. Experts also advise refraining from doing all those things, with your new lashes, all those things mom warned you about that would ultimately give you wrinkles, including: rubbing your eyes and pulling on your lashes. They also suggest getting rid of your mascara want and your eyelash curler, since mascaras are typically made with petroleum which can break down the adhesive holding your lashes on, and curlers can either break or crease you attractive add-ons.

You’ll also want to steer clear of creamy or waxy eyeliners or eye pencils. And, you’ll want to remove your makeup with a non-greasy, non-oily remover rather than your standard (often oil-based) cleanser.

· Glue on your eyelids, how safe is that? Well, according to the pros, very safe, since the glue doesn’t actually come in contact with your lid. And, they are also perfectly safe to wear with contacts.

Now, with big, bold, beautiful lashes to bat, the only thing left, according to experts, is enhancing your makeup techniques so you don’t overshadow your powerful peepers.
