Don’t leave home without it: Packing Tips For Jet-setting Femmes

by Mia Bolaris-Forget (Staff Writer NYCityWeddings)

While most men tend to under-pack, most of us ladies tend to take along everything but the kitchen sink. And, I speak from first-hand experience. Not to mention that most of the time all the “little extras” are also “un-necessary”, and simply just more for us to lug along and wash and/or re-iron when we get home. Plus, at least as far as I’ve often been concerned, while we take with us most of, everything we physically own, we tend to forget the practical items, and those we wind up needing the most.

Alas, there is a solution. At least according to savvy travelers and prodigious packers.

1. Three times you’re out: Eliminate any article of clothing, accessory or shoe that you don’t foresee wearing at least three times. And, make sure that every (or most) article(s) of clothing compliment most of you other wardrobe and have at least two uses.

2. Shop strategically: Sure you’ll want to splurge an several eclectic items for your “grand getaway” , but the key here is picking out lightweight items that have durability, especially if your spending a good part of your vacation outdoors. On the average, black is a great basic, matching almost everything and being extremely versatile.

3. Top it off: Tops can be tricky, but experts suggest about three ts and one or two long-sleeved blouses and an equal number of long-sleeved shirts. Opt for wrinkle free fabrics and camouflaging patters that are also easy to wash, dry, and maintain.

4. No slacking: When it comes to pants and shorts, experts suggest packing darker coloured items that are less likely to reveal dirt or wrinkles. They further suggest investing in at least one or two pairs with an elastic waist band in case you hit a buffet or two or put on a pound or two. However, if you are watching your waistline, you may want to take your skinny shorts to ensure you won’t overindulge.

Another suggestion for packing less is buying pants with removable legs that can double as shorts. Limit shorts to one or two pair and don’t forget a pair or two of capris

5. Skirting the issue: Comfortable and versatile and very feminine skirts and dresses can easily go from day to night. Think about bringing one or two and think about at least one featuring an elastic waistband. Also, opt for lighter fabrics that are also easy to maintain….after all who really wants to be ironing on their vacation.

6. A step in the right direction: Make sure you have good walking shoes that are cute but comfortable. As a second pair bring a pair of sandals or dark leather flats in cooler temps. And, if there’s room for a third pair, consider something sexy and strappy for special night out.

7. Other essentials: When it comes to socks, underwear, pjs and swimwear think farbrics that are comfortable and dry fast. Bring one pair of undies for each day and two bras, one neutral and one black. Consider boy shorts or pants with a sports bra for jimmies, especially if you have to make a midnight bathroom run down the hall or if the kids are around. And for beachwear the experts suggest a nice tankini or a one-piece, especially if you’re outdoor activities and water sports.

8. Cover ups: Even if you’re going someplace hot, there may be some cool days and most likely cooler nights. Bring a lightweight blazer for waking around or a waterproof hoodie for walks about town. And, don’t forget a small shall and/or a cardigan.

9. Off-season items: If you plan on packing for an off-season sojourn, you’ll also need to think about some “unconventional” items. Think silk long johns for light layering and don’t forget the hat and gloves for colder temps. For fairer skinned femmes consider bringing some sort of headgear to keep you safe from the sunlight. And, make sure to wear shoes that are water-resistant or waterproof.

10. Enhancing accents: Accessories, experts say don’t leave home without them. In fact they can help accentuate, and altogether change the look of an outfit. Choose items that are lightweight and easy to back, but they caution that other than your wedding ring you should leave other precious items at home.
