Lux Locks: Star Studded Styles For The Bride and Her “Girls”:
by Mia Bolaris-Forget (Staff Writer NYCityWeddings)
You’ve always dreamed of sexily strolling down the catwalk, and probably so has every other girl (and maybe even a few of the guys) in your bridal party. Well girl, here’s your chance to sparkle, shine and take center stage, simply by brushing up on some infamous beauty tips used by some of your more “famous” sisters.
Experts suggest thinking about your hairstyle just as soon as you start thinking about your ring (more and more couples are picking them out together these days), your gown, and your place de cerebra. Start by envisioning you special day, the mood you want to create, and how you’ve always dreamed you and your elegant entourage would look.
· Peruse the pages of wedding magazines, but note not only the gowns (and tuxes) but also headpieces and hairstyles you like. Save the page. Bring all collected materials from hairstyles to veil placement to your stylist and discuss in detail what will work best with your features, hair texture, type of gown and headpiece etc.
· Visit your regular stylist FIRST. She/he probably knows you, your personality, your hair and how you generally wear it, what works (for you) and what doesn’t better than anyone. If however, he or she is not comfortable with taking on wedding day responsibility as for a recommendation. And, by all means, do your homework, research, and check out a few other places on your own. Most importantly, make sure you are comfortable with the person or team you choose and have confidence in the ability.
· Keep it real and practical. You may WANT a cool and chic razor cut style, but if you’ve got “course” curly hair, it may simply not work out the way you envisioned. Take into account the texture and length of your hair, how comfortable you’ll be (in a certain style) ALL DAY LONG, where you are having the wedding (indoors or outdoors) and potential “complications” such as wind, rain, humidity, etc. Pick a style that is “convenient” and “flexible”. If you’re gown has an old-fashioned flair, you may want to consider a vintage up-do or if you’re going Hollywood Glam, you may want a style that conveys the same.
· Stick to basics. While you may want to include some tasteful trends into your wedding, you probably wont’ want to experiment with hair and makeup. Remember, you are creating memories that will last a lifetime, ones you hope to look back on fondly and not think: “what was I thinking”. Save the freedom to “express yourself” for times when it can’t be captured in potentially “incriminating” photos and video. Choose a style that suits your personality, but that exudes timeless sophistication and elegance. Above all make sure you choose a style you LIKE. Remember, if you like how you look, it WILL show.
· Share the spotlight. While guests are coming to see you (and your beloved) and share in your special day, they will also be taking in the ambiance of the entire day and event. From atmosphere to food and entertainment, your wedding becomes mini major soiree with guests and key players alike taking their spot amidst the “red carpet”. Make sure your wedding party also looks its best. Besides choosing (dress and tuxedo) styles that are (figure) flattering and go with the theme, you’ll want to make sure hair and makeup is equally as complimentary. If you choose something romantic for yourself, stick with the “theme” for your girls and guys. If you tend to be more “casual” and “funky” give your stylist creative license with your wedding party. Above all make sure each person is happy and comfortable with her/his style and that it adequately reveals something special about them on this very special day.
