Camera Ready: Looking Your Best For The Cameras On Your Wedding Day
by Mia Bolaris-Forget (Staff Writer NYCityWeddings)
Ever wonder how the stars manage to look “flawless” in front of the cameras? Well, while you may believe that it’s because they are simply blessed with great photo genes and the best makeup artists money (that you don’t have) can buy, you may be surprised at how “easy” it is to achieve a picture perfect look.
1. Light Up Your Life: No matter how beautiful you are or how impeccably you’ve applied your makeup, we all have flaws and catch us in the wrong angle or light, they become that much more apparent. According to experts, one of the greatest gifts you can give your face is just the right glow. Before you apply your makeup you need to know not only what colors look good on you but also what light looks good on you. Experts emphasize that lighting that shines either up or down on you can cast misleading shadows and lead to un-necessary heavy makeup application. They note that the ultimate luminescence should be direct, straight on you eliminating shadows and allowing for more natural look.
2. Practice Makes Perfect: Before the “Big Day” you should not only arrange for a professional photo shoot that will enable you to view and review your best angles, but you and your beloved should practice getting comfortable in front of the camera. Take each other’s picture frequently and in different environments and circumstances. Take candids, and posed photos and see which you feel captures your true essence better (FYI…I look absolutely awful when I’m posing, but capture me off guard…J) Once you’ve both established your style convey your information with your photographer and devise a plan for capturing that image on camera.
3. Sparkle and Shine: Two things you want to avoid in photos. For polished photos you want to tone down the facial luminance. When makeup is complete, dab a little loose translucent powder to retain the color. Primary areas of focus should include your nose, chin, and brow (the T-zone and bony areas of your face).
4. Lack Luster: While you DO want to play up and enhance certain facial features, and exude a radiant glow, you don’t want to have your whole face shimmer. According to experts, facial glitter can actually work against you. Strategically placed around your eyes, you can emit the look of love, but shine on cheeks can translate into a greasy skin, especially in photos.
5. Lip Service: A passionate pout is what you should strive for. Matte colors may last longer but can appear harsh in pictures. Super shiny lipsticks and glosses can appear runny and sloppy. Your best bet is a sleek satin finish.
6. Chic Cheeks: According to experts crème blushes are far from the crème de la crème of choices for chic cheeks in photos. Consider a powder blush instead. Professionals point out that powder blushes do not get absorbed into the skin (as easily), and retain their color and effect longer.
7. Smile and Say Cheese: Polish your pearly whiles, practice a sensational smile, and the rest should be all “Lights, Camera, Action”!
