Q & A
"Excellence in Entertainment"1.)When people think of wedding music, they think of DJs. Tell us how you offer a unique and special alternative to the traditional.
The Mystic is a group of eight talented musicians with incredible resumes including Broadway’s Movin’ Out, Jersey Boys, Grease; the most recent Billy Joel tour at Shea, and recording with various pop artists. Together they have tremendous chemistry. They bring the music to life, creating a different mood with each song they sing, making each event unforgettable. If the sound is good, nothing compares to live music.
2.) In your opinion, is a band best suited for cocktail hour or reception or both? and What type of entertainment music do you offer?
Live music works wonderfully for both the cocktail hour and reception. We offer full service entertainment for the “big day”…ceremony music, cocktail hour ensembles, harpist, jazz trios. Our full 8 piece band (keyboards, guitars, bass, drums, full horn section, female vocalist, and 4 other lead vocals, including emcee) performs during receptions.
3.)Tell us about working in conjunction with other types of entertainment, such as a DJ.
At the couple’s request, we will share the evening with a DJ.
4.)Tell us about how you motivate the crowd and keep the party going.
The Mystic has great chemistry and plays with contagious energy that keeps the party going. We cover music from all genres that will satisfy guests of all ages and keep them thirsty for more music! We also offer a light show package, and a flat screen tv package!
5.) Can couples customize their song list or do you have a repertoire they can select from and can you also play requests?
We have an extensive and diverse repertoire that couples can select from, which includes music from the ‘50’s through today. In addition, we will play any requests so that they can customize a song list for a personal and unique experience. Since our list is so diverse, we usually have couples go through our list highlighting the songs they would prefer to hear so the selection is somewhat personalized to the bride and groom. If for some reason their special requests (1st dance, parent dances, entrance song, cake cutting song, or a dedication) are not on our list, we learn the song(s) for the couple’s special day.
6.) Tell us what you can add to the wedding celebration and what hiring your band can add to the wedding celebration.
The Mystic brings class, authenticity, excitement, and energy to every performance. As with any live music, it brings energy to the dance floor and it separates us from the typical wedding. Our exciting song list and authentic renditions of songs surpass all expectations of a wedding band. A real excitement for music lovers! The most common feedback we get is that people can't stop talking about their wedding band for months after the wedding!
7.) Give us some insight on what a couple should look for when choosing a band.
A consideration that is almost equally as important as quality music is quality service. Ours is a family-run business, and we pride ourselves on providing personalized service to all of our clients. We are eager to learn new songs for couples. Every wedding is important to us. We enjoy performing together and it shows. It is never just a job. Another important factor is that we always perform with the same 8 musicians. Make sure your wedding band does not sub out certain instruments. You may not get the band you originally saw. When people do not always play together, it's hard to develop good chemistry together. Chemistry is a big part of sounding great! The Mystic prides themselves on sounding exactly like the original recording.
8) How far in advance should a couple schedule a meeting with you and how far in advance should a couple book with you?
On average, couples are booking a year in advance. Our advice would be to book as early as possible to insure availability. Usually from May through November books up the quickest, so when booking during those months, try to call as early as possible (especially for Saturday night weddings).
9.) What do you request for set-up and is there anything they should inform the catering hall of?
We handle the set-up on our own, a clear path for the load in and sufficient electricity is requested. We arrive extra early and complete our sound track as early as the facility will allow us to get in to ensure not to disturb the arriving guests.
10.) Is this something younger as well as a mature couple can take advantage of, benefit from and have fun with?
Younger couples and mature couples alike will appreciate the diversity of our repertoire, and they can tailor the entertainment to reflect their musical tastes…perhaps a harpist at the ceremony, a jazz trio at the cocktail hour, a tasteful and intelligent light show at the reception, or something more traditional. Since we cover music from the 40's through the pop hits of today, we are sure to please music lovers of all ages and musical tastes.
11.) What are some of the most requested songs you can boast you do?
Some popular requests are Journey, Barry White, BonJovi, John Mayer, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Michael Buble, Billy Joel…’80’s music is especially popular…Big Band selections and Chicago showcases our impressive horn section…and let’s not forget our roots, the Rolling Stones and Beatles (and of course our other classic rock favorites).
12.) What, in your opinion, is the developing trend in bands and wedding celebrations? Tell us about some of the latest innovations and how you are keeping up with market trends.
I wouldn’t say that there is any one particular trend. I think couples want their wedding celebration to be a reflection of their individual style and personality. Our goal is to assist couples in creating a one-of-a-kind event. The light show and flat screen tv's are becoming popular for younger couples. Great music.. well that will live on forever!
13.) Are bands appropriate for both daytime and evening events?
Bands are an excellent choice for daytime affairs as well as evening. Live music adds mood, energy, and ambiance to an affair any time of day.
14.) Besides the popular music most of us are familiar with, what other types of music do you do? Also, do you do any ethnic songs, Italian, Irish and Greek to name a few?
In addition to today’s music, we play the standards, rock ‘n roll of the fifties, Motown, classic disco, classic rock, and the ethnic favorites. It's amazing how we can sound exactly like Barry White, Frank Sinatra, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Led Zeppelin, Journey, Billy Joel and Chicago all in one set of music! This band has exciting and diverse setlists that are sure to capture every audience!
15.) What kind of “sound” is your particular band most noted for (swing, jazz, etc)?
The Mystic isn’t really defined by one sound, but by many. They play music from all genres, and capturing the artist with great authenticity is what they are most noted for. Their ability to perform such a diverse list of music and sound so authentic on each piece is what keeps this band in such high demand at Long Island clubs as well as at weddings and parties! People can see a different and exciting show each time they see the band!
