Tune In: The Particulars For Picking Your Wedding Day Music

by NYCityWeddings.com

What would a wedding party be without the music? Well, believe it or not, I’ve actually attended an event like that and to say the least, it was “interesting” yet different….and certainly a much more “intimate” and “creative” affair, at least when it came to entertaining the guests. But, for most “mainstream” marriage celebrations, the music is the “pulse” of the party, and it can make or break an event. And, today’s party pros know just how instrumental music is to your event, which is why play lists have become so popular.

These outlines of “must plays” and “do not plays” give your band or DJ some valuable insight into your event, including a glimpse at who YOU are, who your guests are, and what you and your even will be all about…and that makes it easier for them to tune into the musical vibe you want to achieve.

Select on average about 50 to 60 songs for a typical 4-5 hour reception. Just make sure there’s an even mixture of old and new, and slow and fast options. Other than that make sure your DJ is skilled at reading your crowd and altering music to their likes and needs (even on the spot). Remember, he or she should be poised at keeping the party hopping and pleasing the crowd.
