Anyone who grew up in Brooklyn and was a tween circa late 70s to mid and late 80s likely remembers a small little place called Zips (I think) that allowed you to top your own ice cream and/or sundae. Well, this old fun favourite is back and may in face “never really” have gone out of style. But, now it’s got a new “face” and a new name and from wedding celebrations to birthday parties, topping your own dessert is the sweetest trend around.

Couples and parents are setting up “Pimp My Cupcake” stations at their festive events. Towers of multi-flavoured confections are displayed for guests to choose from. And, accompanying condiments such as sprinkles, sugar or marzipan flowers, chips, etc are offered alongside as edible extras that allow you to “spice up” your decadent dessert.
