Re: Greek desserts
I'm so excited. Thanks, but please don't rush. I don't want to be a nuisance.
Attica, do you cook Greek foods a lot? It would be such fun to learn different ethnic foods.

Re: Greek desserts
I'm notgreek but I have made baklava a few times...
Baklava 1 lb fyllo pastry 2 cups finely chopped walnuts ( I think almonds are the norm...but I don't like them) pinch of cinnamon 1 cup butter 2 cups sugar 1 cup honey lemon juice vanilla Mix the walnuts and cinnamon. Butter a pan and place 4 buttered sheets of fyllo. Spread a thin layer of the mix and then two more sheets of fyllo. Repeat until you have 4 sheets left, which you use for the top layer. Cut the baklava in squares, all the way to the bottom of the pan. Top with the remaining butter and bake in 350 oven for ~45 minutes. Mix the sugar, honey, vanilla, lemon juice and 1 1/2 cup of water in a pot and boil for 5 minutes. Remove any froth off the top and pour over the baklava.

Re: Greek desserts
Maybride, sorry this took so long... and still, my recipe is incomplete.
Ingredients: 2 cups oil - Mazola 1 cup sugar 1 cup orange juice 1/2 cup cognac 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp beking soda 2 tbsp Crisco shortening (the hard stuff, not the oil) 1 tsp powdered cinamon and powdered cloves 1 orange peel (I think it's the zest, but i'll double check) 1 lemon peel 2.5 pounds flour - Wondra
Syrup: 2 cups honey 2 cups sugar 2.5 cups water
bake at 365 for 20 minutes.
I only have the ingredients which I found in my mom's cookbook-notebook. She didnt write out the directions. I'll ask her what they are and get back to you.

Re: Greek desserts
Deby, I can't believe you went to all this trouble. Thank you soooo much. I'd love to be able to tell you to skip the directions, but I'm not that good in the kitchen. I'm especially insecure about the syrup. I've heard you can ruin it if you boil it too long. I appreciate all your help.

Re: Greek desserts
I'm not Greek, but I found a whole slew of Greek recipes for you...I don't know how accurate they are, since I don't know too much about Greek food (just that I love it)...
