This is silly....

I can't seem to get this out of my head tho...I want my girls to get there hair and makeup done. However, I am not offering to pay for it....is that wrong??? I thought when you say yes to being a bridesmaid you know it comes with a price tag! I was in a friends and with everything it ended costing me $2,000! The only things I am expecting my bridesmaid to do is buy the dress (i hope!) and get their hair and make-up done for the wedding. That should be under $500. No bridal shower no engagement gift, bacholorette party etc...The reasoning why I want it is because of pictures. Well my mother called me a bridezilla!!!! So I have to ask am I???? She said who cares if they don't get there hair and make-up done it will make you stand out more anyways if they don't. Really?!?

I am getting them a nice gift... but I think you re right- when you say yes to the bridesmaid card... you say yes to the expenses. We would, and have, done it for them!

Re: This is silly....

I want my girls to get their hair and makeup done too and I feel that way as well but when i say it outloud I can see how bad it sounds. Also my whole bridal party has to stay overnight at a hotel for 2 nights out east so I feel like I am already asking way to much. But I would totally do it for any of them.

Re: This is silly....

Personally, I'm not asking my girls to get their hair and makeup done. I got my hair done for weddings I've been in, but never my makeup because I'm very particular about it & can do a better job than some of the "professionals". I know at least one of my girls isn't getting either done, she's having her sister do it, which is fine with me. But that's just me.

Re: This is silly....

This is a tough one! I would love for my bm's to get hair & makeup but I trust them enough that if they dont they will find someone who will do it nicely. All of my girls are getting hair done but only 3 are getting makeup done. If it's really important to you then I would offer to pay for one of them or chip in. Just a suggestion....

I agree, however I am the opposite. I know that someone CAN do it better than me, so I will opt to pay (I also LOOOOVE getting hair and makeup done, I feel like a million bucks). On my wedding though, several of my friends are very skilled at doing their own hair and makeup so if they opted to do it on their own, I personally wouldn't mind. I don;t care how it gets done, as long as they look gorgeous!

I don't think this makes you a bridezilla at all. I rarely get my make up done professionally but if my friend asked me to do it for her wedding I would do it.
It's your wedding, they are in your bridal party, and should really do what makes you happy! Just my opinion!

I've read that if you require them to get hair and make-up done that you should pay for it or atleast pay a portion of it. I'm leaving it up to my girls and 3 of them are getting it done and 2 aren't.

ITA. Not every girl will understand that the big price tag includes $200 for hair and makeup when usually the dresses we like are at that price point, plus shoes, plus travel, presents, etc. Unless you told them before they officially committed that this was an expectation on their parts.

I definitely said it nicely. I said I would like everyone to get their hair and make-up done.

Re: This is silly....

Well I don't trust that they will do their hair and make-up well. I am having fh sisters in the party and my sister. No friends. One has some weird crazy taste and I don't want it to look bad in the pictures. But I'm letting it go. They can do whatever they want. I will offer it. If I could do it again I would of just had my sister in my bridal party so I don't have these issues. They complain to me about money. Its hard for me because I am paying for a wedding and you are complaining about paying for a dress. I should understand people aren't like me when it comes to money. I would put x amount of money on the side every week so that by the time the wedding comes I would have enough money.

I asked all of my girls to have their hair and make-up done. I am not requiring them to use the same people that I am using though. I trust them to choose people who will make them look and feel fabulous. A few of my girls may do their own make-up, but they are the girls that I trust to do it.

Re: This is silly....

I am not paying for it & even though it would be nice to have them do their make up by a pofessional, I am not requiring it. I do agree that when you are asked to be in a bridal party & say "yes", you understand that there is "price tag" that comes along with it. Especially if its a long engagement & you have over a year to prepare for it. My girls are having it done, some by my make up artist, some by the girls in that M.A.C. store (they have a few friends that work there), but they are all paying it themselves & know that it is not mandatory.

We are going to offer our people to do it/ get ready together.
I may just ask for hair up and suggest (strongly) get make up done- because one time i did my own for a wedding i was in and with the lighting i looked like a ghost in pictures!

Re: This is silly....

I'm not requiring it, because I can't pay for it. I don't want this to be something they look back on and wince at, because of how much money they had to spend. I certainly don't want that for myself, either. Pictures are important, but my girls are beautiful with excellent taste on their own.
Honestly, if I could, I'd buy my girls' dresses too. I think weddings are a tad out of control when it comes to financial "obligations."

I know I'm a bit on the opposite extreme, but I just feel like their friendship I more important to me than how their hair looks in the pictures.

This! I am requiring them to get their hair done, but they can do their own makeup.

Re: This is silly....

They are getting their hair done at my house. The cost for the bridesmaids hair was $60 each so what I am doing is paying $35 of it for each girl. I have 10 girls so thats $350 and each girl pays $25. They loved the deal! $25 is nothing compared to what they would pay in the salon. And we get to watch tv and eat and drink at my house so it works out great. Makeup they can do themselves or have my makeup girl do it. Whatever they want but I did wantt hem all to get their hair done. If you only have 3 girls then maybe this is an option. It can be like part of the bridesmaid gift.

Wow that is a fantastic deal! I would love it if you could FM me with your hair-dresser's info (if of course she does weddings normally)

But anyway, my two cents is that it is okay to ask your bridesmaids to get their hair and makeup done, but with the understanding that some of them might not be able to afford it. If a friend was telling me I had to spend another $200 and I didn't have it, I would hope that she would understand if I did my own or helped me out with the cost.

I am not offering to pay for their hair or make up, but I do want them to get it done. I also thought saying yes to being a BM this is all part of it as well. I don't think by you wanting this done for the girls you are a bridezilla at all. Remember these are your pictures that you have to look at for the rest of your life!!

Re: This is silly....

I want them to get it done, more as a pamper... i mean what girl wouldnt want a professional hair and makeup stylist for the day...

that being said i agree with you on the part about accepting being a bridesmaid comes with a pricetag. and since my parents are paying for BOTH of my bridal showers, the only thing they have to worry about is dress and bach party expenses...

I think its fine, just dont go nuts. I paid $125 for hair/MU/tip for FBILs wedding

Re: This is silly....

Honestly, I think it's kinda wrong. I don't automatically assume I'm going to be asked to have my hair and make up done by being a bridesmaid. Have I? Always, but that's because I wanted to, not because someone else told me I had to.

Only one of my BMs had her make-up done and 1 of them didn't even have her hair done! They all looked spectacular. I didn't choose them because they'd look good in photos, I chose them because I wanted them up there with me, KWIM?

Just my two cents!

ETA: And I know it's hard when you're in the thick of planning to look at the bigger picture and life outside the wedding, but I guarantee after the wedding is done and you're married, who did or did not get their make-up/hair done is going to be the LAST thing to concern you. I've been married almost two years and all of the wedding details that I felt were SO important and so necessary were really not that serious in the grand scheme of things.
