hit a cat with our car

i am sooo upset
DH and I were driving back from dinner when he was in his lane, and we felt we hit something, sounded like we hit a cardboard, but than he thought it was an animal, we turned around to check....drove back around, hoping worst comes to worst it was a possum or a racoon, but it turned out to be a small grey cat, lying on the side of the road, DH picked it up, but it ran away, than it lied down again, and this time we picked it up it was breathing really heavy and bought it to a 24 hour animal hospital hoping they would save him, help him, do something, to which they told us if we cant pay the bills to help him which is over 1k, they are goign to put him to sleep immediately...

i am so upset. why cant they try to help him a little .....

anyone a vet on here or knows one that wont charge soo much money for x-rays and stuff, i already have a cat i knwo how expensive vet bills can run, but i really cant afford anything much right now...and its aching me....

we left the cat at central vet associates in valley stream, and here are the awful reviews on this place http://national.citysearch.com/review/7470471?reviewId=18495271 i wish i never bought the poor kitty here....they wont even give the cat back to us now so we can bring it elsewhere....

I'm so sorry this happened.

I must tell you that I fought with them. My cat was sick and we took her there in an emergency. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with her until almost $4k later. I asked the doctor why they needed to run so many tests on her and I was pissed at so many unnecessary procedures they were doing to her. The vet told me that I do not love my cat or care for her well-being. I will never, ever recommend that place in an emergency or anything.

I would report them to the BBB. I go to Juniper Valley Animal Hospital in Middle Village. I love them and I don't think they overcharge.

For future reference, you should call your vet after hours, they will tell you where the ER is that they are associated with.


Again... I'm sorry and that's absolutely horrible.

oh I am so sorry - that's such an awful feeling. . I do commend you for going out of your way and trying to help . even if it didn't work out the way you planned you should feel good about trying..

we took my own persian cat there, and during check up they said they were going to give our cat an ointment because of discharge coming from his eye....they were charging us 350 for the ointment. DH got the name of the ointment when no one was looking...and bought it online for $20.00 .......... these people are such theives..... it was the only 24 hr place i knew so i took the cat.

they put the cat to sleep, called this morning to check...

we took our cats and dog there and i will never again take any animal there ever again. they're the worst... all they want is money and they don't give a shitt about the well being of the animals!

I second Juniper Valley Animal hospital!! They are amazing my sister use to be a vet tech there before she became a Veternarian! I LOVE THEM!!!
