I cannot take it anymore... I am so close to giving up

At times like these I regret going for teaching...I cannot find anything I am sorry for all of the posts..I am just so upset and I cannot take this anymore...Another freakin summer looking for a job!

did you try the board of ed? my friend just got a job in bayside...

I would go online...look up all of the schools that border nassau and call them to see if they have any openings...

I think you just have to keep trying....call as many as you can and just fax them to everyplace you see..literally... You wouldn't happen to have your special ed lisence, would you?

Keep trying. It's a little late now to give up, you already you have a degree. Maybe you would have a better chance getting a job in a different state; if you are willing to relocate for your career. (plus you would have to take another test, or something). I was origanally going to school for teaching...but I switch to BSN when I realized the difficult time it was with getting a job. I think it will be better in a few more years when the baby boomers are leaving. Then again, so many people are wating to run in their spots!!

Kathleen, I know this is not the ideal situation, but how about working in a pre-school for awhile? I know the pay and the benefits won't be the same, but you can be under DHs benefits right? At least then you will be doing something related to your field.

I'm going through this now, though I have a job.

Everytime I get so down, something "else" pops up as an opportunity. I get excited and then either I don't get it, or the salary isn't doable or the never call me back.

I feel your pain right now. I won't sugar coat it cause I feel it too. You just have to keep plugging it.

Why don't you try driving around and dropping resumes off. I've heard of that working...at least you won't be in the house eating pita chips (trying to make you smile!).

I am going through the same thing going on 5 years. It takes a long time on the island because there are so many of us. Put your name on a few sub lists of schools that are around you and you will work every day then you will get to know a few districts. I could never do that before I got married because I needed benefits so I kept taking teaching assistants positions then getting a leave here and there. Finally last year I was a .5 position for about a month then full time then excessed again because of budgets story of my life. Now I have a full time leave because they asked me back and I hope it will lead to a tenure track position..Keep doing what you are doing that is all you can do.

i have heard it is very hard to get a job teaching in long island, my suggestions would be if you really need a job try one of the Dept of Ed in NYC, maybe queens

I know how you feel. I just got my first permanent job. It took me four years. I also have a reading degree because eled is so hard. Could you go back for a special ed or reading degree because there are much openings for that field then elem ed. That is what I did. Or just be a teacher aide in districts that give benefits and then once you prove yourself usually they hire within

there is really is not that many openings for that either on the island i have both of those certifications actually i have 3 but the budgets are bad that is the prob. I was excessed two years in a row two different districts in the special ed dept. it is crazy, like i said i am going on 5 years and i only have a leave now

i wish i could say it gets better but my moh has the same degree and she has been looking for almost 2 years now there is like almost nothing .. good luck though maybe u'll be one of the lucky ones

I was going around schools today (Queens) all dressed up in a suit handing out resumes too and NOTHINNGGGGG- FM me if you need to chat- I KNOWWW how to feel!
