We're getting $$ back. Much better than when we were single.

Though, all I can say is, stay away from H&R Block! They are scam artists!!!!!

We're getting money back but not as much as before we were married. We are getting the biggest refunds by filing married separate.

No, they tried to charge us $370 for this guy to input numbers into a computer for 15 minutes....and our taxes are pretty simple!
I usually do them myself but we had sold some stocks, and I know NOTHING about that stuff.
So, we're going to tell them where to stuff it and doing it through turbo tax.

Re: How did you do on your taxes as Married Folks?

the marriage penalty is supposed to change next year - so when you file taxes for married both working it should work out better because now married both working pay more taxes then when single both working - just so you know

We did well. We have enough to put in a new window and make an extra mortgage payemt. But we were able to deduct my student loan etc.

Wow-why would H&R Block charge you so much? We have a house and 2 kids and they only charged us $224.

Re: How did you do on your taxes as Married Folks?

We owed, and it really screwed us b/c the down payment we wer saving for our house was used to pay it

BUT...I was told by our tax advisor that we should not file as married because we make to much money (yeah right...not even close )

Re: How did you do on your taxes as Married Folks?

DH wants to divorce me

the few grand that he got back last year has now vanished since i came into the picture...we got screwed! after all is said and done we get back something like $200 - pathetic! we are hoping property ownership will "help" if we ever find a house!

i also don't want to get into the habit of "getting back" i would rather take more deductions and owe than have the government take my $$ and earn interest on it...

Re: How did you do on your taxes as Married Folks?

we got back a lot more than we were expecting...
so I decided to file as married for 2005 but to get taxed at a single rate in hopes we get back a nice refund as well next year...

Re: How did you do on your taxes as Married Folks?

We did better when we were single but we are still getting money back. We are doing $9 better by filing jointly than separatly. We claim Married, but withhold at higher single rate 0 (accountant said to keep doing this until we buy a house).
