Re: QOTD What are you or will you do to keep the spark in your marriage

I will begin, so here goes, Roger and I plan a date night the 3rd Friday of every month, we go away together all the time, whether its a short trip or a far away trip we get away from the every day monotony. We play games, we do things together as well as apart to keep the balance in our life. We talk, keeping the lines of communication open I definitely think is KEY!!! We treat each other with respect, we watch TV together, listen to the radio together, not all the time of course. I love Lifetime and he hates it, but sometimes I get him caught up in a good story and we discuss it. I read my novels to him sometimes, he loves it, then we discuss things from the novel. Little things do count. I know he loves chocolate and other little goodies, I surprise him with them.

Yesterday evening I came in from the gym and there were 2 chocolate Khalua candy on my side table. I know keeping the spark requires work and I am willing to do my part.

May I suggest 1001 Night of Romance, or the board game Speak love Make Love.

Re: QOTD What are you or will you do to keep the spark in your marriage

One thing that we do right now is we always eat dinner together. This really keeps us close for some reason. I think its b/c no matter how busy both of our days are going it gives up time to stop and talk about our day and just say I love you.

Oh Natasha, how could I forget that, yes indeedy, someone made the comment to me, why do I still go to the gym, now that I am married I was like, b/c I want to stay in shape and keep myself up. I know we have seen on more than one occasion men have said us women let ourselves go, but I am holding him to the same standard as he is holding me to.

Neva, we don't eat dinner together, we do Saturday morning brunch and Sundays after church, I do believe in the motto the family that prays together stays together

Re: QOTD What are you or will you do to keep the spark in your marriage

Even if you do not need it for yourself, you could get them for a friend, I think these make great Bridal Shower gifts. We recently purchased this game. We are still playing

shamma

speak love, make love

It's one thing to talk the talk. But can they play the game? Give those communication skills a higher purpose with this board game. The unique two-sided board allows couples to play a romantic game of giving and receiving that artfully melds thought and feeling with sensual pleasure. And while it is all fun and games, "Speak Love, Make Love" is also designed to foster better communication for a happier relationship.

$25

Re: QOTD What are you or will you do to keep the spark in your marriage

I think it is really important to remember that your husband is more than just your roomate. So many marriages fall apart because people become strangers living in one house. You need to "connect" every day. We say I Love You all the time, sit on the couch together and cuddle, hold hands in the stores. I think the little things make a couple fall in love everyday.

Re: QOTD What are you or will you do to keep the spark in your marriage

Well, DH and I are not really the mushy romantic types - especially in public, but we have our own little rituals for staying connected. We talk, talk, talk....We always have dinner together without any interruptions - I love to cook so I try to make dinner special every night and he knows I hate to do dishes after dinner so he does them...We spend a lot of time alone - even if it's just sitting in the same room while we each do our thing...We have date nights at least once a week where we either go out or stay in alone...We constantly compliment each other on how we look - and mean it! We both try to look good for each other...We talk on the phone at least twice a day from work...We give each other space and room to be ourselves - this makes us appreciate each other even more. The best thing I think we do is that we laugh at each other and at ourselves all the time!! This keeps things in perspective... All these things keep the love, passion and friendship alive and they work for us

Re: QOTD What are you or will you do to keep the spark in your marriage

Neva, we do not play/do everything everyday, its just nice to have options and try different and fun things with your hubby. Sometimes when we are home, we stay in bed all day doing nothing, subjecting him to lifetime or we play scrabble or cards. I agree Michelle, you have to connect. You know what works for the both of you, keep on improving it.

Shamma; Did you do the 101 nights book? I got that a long time ago and we picked a few out and were just like "what?" Maybe we just happened to pick the odd ones but it turned us off to the whole thing.

We will continue to take care of how we look and keep ourselves in shape. We will always communicate with each other & never take each other for granted. We will continue to surprise each other with little loving notes & always help each other with the household chores. We will always continually tell each other how much we love them.

Stef, we changed it up to our liking, yes there are some very interesting ones, we never let the rules tie us to not doing it. Make up your own if you don't like the one that is pulled, pull another one.

Say "I love you" and give hugs as much as possible (at least 1x per day, but even more if possible), I don't think you can ever say it too much or give too many hugs!!

Great thread!!

Re: QOTD What are you or will you do to keep the spark in your marriage

You guys are going to think this is silly but.... we still talk baby talk a little.... I am not married yet.... but we are so cute...

We still touch each other like we did when we were dating.... He sits on the couch watching tv and I sit on his lap instead of the rest of the couch....

We must give each other at least 20 kisses throughout the day! We say I love you at least 10 times... I don't know how long this is going to last, but we make people sick around us!

He makes most of the money in the relationship and works really hard at it. I don't take that for granted and I let him know it.... Once a week he comes home from work and piping fresh hot food is already on the table- the table is set- and dishes automatically appear and disappear... I ask for no help from him that day.... It gives me pleasure to have him eat a hearty meal and relax without additional work at home....
