OK still trying to decide in photographer (SUGGESTIONS NEEDED)

If you all remember here is the problem:


My grandmother's husband is a photographer, he takes fabulous pictures, and he offered to do our wedding at no charge.. We thought that was great, but then we thought about it some more and realized, that these pics are the most important thing of the wedding... so we were going to get a photographer.. well, all of the photographers I have found are at least $2500 for the cheapest package.. we want video too so that's at least $4000. so I came to this conclusion:

--Hire a Photojournalist for 8-10 hours for candid shots (which I love so much), and have my grandfather take all of the posed pictures..the traditional pics WHAT DO YOU THINK???


we also don't want to hurt his feelings, he truly is very talented..

well unless you want a lot of just traditional and photojournalistic pics...good. BUT don't you want pics with your grandfather in it?
I love candids..and want most pics as such. I am also having a separate photojournalistic photograpgher but still want a lot of candids...
Does he not want to enjoy the wedding at all. Because that is what the photogragher must do in my opinion. I think it was a WONDERFUL gesture but i would go professional

Thats the thing, regardless of what we choose, he'll be taking pictures anyway.. thats what he does, and that's what he loves to do. He isn't my real grandfather, we're not that close, of course I would love him in some pics, maybe we can catch him.. it's very hard, at every function, he's around taking pics, so I'm not worried about that...

I have no idea waht I am doing yet..I am just going to check around...I love the suggestions and references I get , but some are so well known and commercial and I cannot afford their prices....we are not able to spend any more than $2000...do want all our proofs tho....and we want some posed pics and some candids....but we do not want an overwhelming package...its really hard....

BUT just so you know 4000 for photo/video is a GREAT price

Exactly!!! Thats a good price, and it's already way too much for us

FYI: $4000 is a lot of money for just video!!

We are paying not much more then that for 2 photographers, an assistant and videographer. And we are having a fantastic company.

FYI...4000 wasn't for just the vidoe!!! It was for the video AND photo!!! And from the 6 photo/video to compare 4000 is a good price. Only one other was better, so i consider that GOOD

oh, I apologize. That is very good then. I thought that was just for video. I was thinking, what are they using gold film or something

thanks girls.. I just hope that photographers will allow us to jsut have photojournalist??
