How far in advance did you order your wedding dress????

How far in advance did you order your wedding dress? I am getting married in June and have looked 2 times (1st with MOH and 2nd with Mom...who kept saying how beautiful all the dresses were and that they would look great on me if I would lose some weight ) So, now needless to say, I am trying to lose weight...about 30 pounds...do I have time to do this or should I just find a gown and order it to fit now and have it altered later? Just concerned b/c what if I do lose 30 pounds or so and it's too big and they can't take it in that much?

So confused??? And a little sad

What designers are you looking at??

Most bridal shops can tell you how long it will take for certain designers to come in.

I'm sorry that they said that to you. IMO, that was very hurtful and mean of them! they're supposed to support you not make you feel bad.

My dress only took 2 months to come in.

Also.. Maggie sottero dresses have corset backs.. so that might be a good option. If you order bigger size and then lose weight the corset will just becloser together etc

I ordered mine in January and it came in last week. I was told it was going to take 6-8 months and it took about 6.

My wedding is the day after your's and I havent even looked yet.

Each designer is different in the amount of time for ordering.

Also keep in mind, if you order a bigger size its easier to make smaller then to add material. And also these gowns are not "true" sizes, because I was about a size 10 (in regular clothes) and I ordered a 14. I lost weight and I was about size 6/8 in regular clothes.


I ordered mine in March '03 for a May '04 wedding (but I lied about the date to the bridal salon so they thought my wedding was April '04).

My gown (Eve of Milday) takes about 8-10 months for an order. Was expected in November/December '03 and came in October '03 - 1 month early.

I wore a Maggie Sotero and I ordered it 6 months, 2 weeks before my wedding. It came in one week before my wedding.

I ordered mine one year before. The dress looks good, but if I happen to lose alot of weight, it can be altered. No biggie.

They can alter the dress to go down 2 sizes which is usually about 40 pounds....Davids Bridal also will exchange sizes for you if you lose weight. That is what I am doing

I ordered my dress in March for my September wedding (dress came in at the end of June).

I would say order it anyday now...
As far as losing weight don't listen to anyone but yourself! If you are confortable with the way you look and feel then you go girlfriend!!

I ordered mine 14 months in advance. I never planned on finding that fast, but I found it my first day shopping.

If you find one now that you love, I would definitely get it so it fits you now. You cannot guarantee you will lose weight no matter what you say. You never know! It's a lot easiet to take a dress in then let it out!

I ordered mine in April for my July 06 wedding. My dress take 14months to come in. Also, you get one fitting the week of the wedding, so if it's to big..it can still be fixed!

I ordered mine April 15, 2005 for my June 10, 2006 wedding. I want to give it lots of time to come in and not have to rush through alterations!

i lost about 30 lbs since i oredered my maggie corset dress and the bridal shop told me it shouldnt be a problem

I can't believe they all said that too you! One your fiance LOVES you the way you are! You don't have to be a stick figure to look beautiful in your wedding dress. Keep looking at different dresses, you'll find the right one. I suggest if you feel you are heavey to go for a ballroom gown, they are very flattering and they hid the extra pounds like a charm.
I think you usually order your dress six months before the wedding, but earlier can't hurt. But get it in your size now, its easier for them to alter it to make it smaller than to make it bigger.
If you are concerned with your weight you have a year to drop 30 pounds. That isn't too bad. Here are some very simple rules I followed and it worked for me. One make your last mean, dinner a salad and only have it before 8pm. No eating after 8pm. If you do get hungery, munch on fresh veggies, no dressing. Try to drink more water, as much as possible, and try at least three to four times a week to get some for of exercise, such as walking, swimming, tennis, etc... Honestly it shouldn't be too bad. Its not like you have to lose 100 pounds. But also choose what makes you happy, not anyone else. Personally I think some curves, hips, thighs and butt are sexy, but that is just me.

I think you have another 2-3 months to look around without seriously worrying. I think I ordered mine about 9-10 months before the wedding.

They always tell you to order them really early in advance, but really, you only need to order about 4-6 months in advance--most designers cut fabric for dresses quarterly. I ordered mine in mid-to-late October and it was in by January.

I ordered my dress in Jan. of 04 for my Feb 05 wedding. It came in June 04.

I had a interesting experience because my designer stopped making dresses so if I had waited like everyone told me to I wouldn't have been able to have my dress!
