Ugghh!! Bad carpet experience ***Updated***

I am so mad right now I am seeing red! I just just had new carpet installed in my living room and the main hallway in my house. The installer was so nasty I could not believe it! I asked him to please be careful about making marks and leaving handprints on the walls because I just just had them painted. His comment was "Hey, I make a mark you'll just have to deal with it and clean it up when I leave" . I should have thrown him out then, but my furniture is coming tomorrow and I needed the carpet in today.

Then, and this is the worst part of all...they used two pieces of carpet to do my hallway instead of one long piece (the hall is only 10 feet long). So now I have a seam right in the middle of the hallway, which is probably the busiest traffic area of my house. The installer said that he can only use the plan they give him and that he didn't have enough carpet for one long piece. When I complained that I could see the seam he got offended and said that he knows how to do his job and that it is a perfect seam job. I didn't think so, and then he told me the salesman had told me about the seam. Uh no!!!!! He told me about 2 seams, one in the main part of the living room and one from the living room into the hallway. He said nothing about there being a seam across the hallway!

We finally ending up calling the sales guy, who then proceeds to tell me that he told me about the seam. Again..no you didn't because I know that we wouldn't have wanted it like that! The salesman was completely condescending toward me and really ticked me off! They offered me a 5 year warranty on the seams (which I got in writing), but I told him that if my husband comes home and sees it and isn't happy, that they are going to have to come back and fix it! I love the carpet and the color, but arghhhhhhhhhhhh I hate dealing with idiots!

Oh no! Sorry to hear this.
I'm having carpet installed on Saturday so I can understand your frustration.

May I ask what company you are using?

Re: Ugghh!! Bad carpet experience

It was G. Fried Carpet in Westbury. Even the guy who came and did the measuring never told us about the seam in the middle of the hall and he is the one who makes up the plan!

I hope that your experience is better than mine! Good luck.

Re: Ugghh!! Bad carpet experience

Wendy...i am sorry that you have to go through this. It sucks!!!

we also have 2 seams in our carpets that were laid and of course...neither my husband or I have ever had carpet laid so we didnt know what to ask. Well...we have one seam between out living room and dinning room (its one room in a high ranch) and a seam between the dinning room and the hallway!! I wasnt happy about it but I didnt know what questions to ask at the time.

So far...after a year of it being down...you really cant see the seam. I am hoping that it will last a few years!!

OMG! As I was reading this, I was sure you were going to say it was Kelley Floors in Seaford. They did the same thing to me. After a LOT of vaccumming, it faded considerably.

I feel your pain!

Re: Ugghh!! Bad carpet experience

Here is an update: I had to run out to go to the bank. As I was walking though the living room I could see that the seam in there was already coming up!! . Now I knew there would be a seam in there(due to the size of the room) but you are not supposed to see it!

That was the last straw. I called and spoke to the installation manager. I told him how rude the installer was and that he seemed to be in a very big rush and about the seams coming apart. He was very nice and apologetic and he is coming himself tomorrow morning to take a look at it. At least I feel like they didn't just blow me off, so I won't give them bad marks just yet. I'll let you all know what happens!

Re: Ugghh!! Bad carpet experience

Thats horrible and completely unprofessional how they acted!!!

But about the seams, if the carpet layer is good then you should have NO problem! We have a seam in the hallway of my parents house which I have never been able to notice, anyway, we have had the carpet for 10 YEARS and it is fine, it is not coming up or even noticable. And being that you have the 5 year warranty, it should be fine!

Re: Ugghh!! Bad carpet experience

Sorry to hear you are having such a bad time with your carpet place. They sound horribly rude and unprofessional. I hope you will still be able to get some resolution from them.

mlp, I had a great experience with Kelley Floors, they did our house recently and I am very pleased with their service and prices. I guess every place has their share of satisfied and dissatisfied customers.

Re: Ugghh!! Bad carpet experience ***Updated***

Thanks all for your support. The installation manager came to my house this morning to look at the carpet himself. He was very nice and completely apologetic. He looked at the carpet himself very carefully and agreed that the installer did a bad job. So...next Wednesday I will have someone here to fix it to my satisfaction!!! He promised that he would do whatever he had to to make sure we were happy with their work. I will let you all know how it goes, but at least I feel comfortable knowing that they do stand behind their work!

Re: Ugghh!! Bad carpet experience ***Updated***

I'm so glad it's working out for you. The seam in our hallway rug is completely invisible; I wouldn't know it was there if I hadn't been told. So it is possible for one to exist without being an eyesore...although for ten feet they shouldn't have to seam. Either way, good luck.

I'm glad to hear they resolved the problem (we hope). Keep us posted.

We drove by G. Fried last night and I told DH your story b/c we had looked into them.
