Looking to sell these but where??
My mother has many art books that my aunt (who passed away) used and she think they are worth some money. Not in an antique way but some sort of money. She doesnt want to throw them out but we have no idea where to go to sell them. I know we could use half.com but I was thinking maybe more of a store in the city or on the island?
Does anyone know of anywhere we can go to sell them where people will get use out of them?? TIA

Re: Looking to sell these but where??
Try ebay- set a minium bid so you don't have to give them away. Maybe try the flea market- they sell used books- they have to buy them from somewhere. If it turns out they aren't worth much you may want to donate them to a child's hospital.

Re: Looking to sell these but where??
Go to Amazon.com and look up the book and author as if you wanted to purchase it. I was shocked to find out what some of my art books were worth, and many not that old. I had a decorating book less than 20 years old that was selling for $500 and another that was a hardcover coffee table type book from a show at the Guggenheim that was selling for $400. Even an out of print knitting book I have was regularly selling for $300 and up because it was out of print and in demand. You might find out they are valued at a lot more than you think!

Noreen - try the Strand Bookstore in the city. They buy used books - there's one by the Seaport and one by Union Square.

Re: Looking to sell these but where??
Awesome ideas!
Denise, I have seen both of those bookstores!
Karen, once you go there and find how much they are worth, then what do you do with them? Where do you sell them??

Re: Looking to sell these but where??
Hi Noreen;
I haven't actually tried to sell mine, I was just shocked to see what the value was on some of them.
Amazon.com has a link at the bottom of the page if you want to sell your books.
Another good site, maybe better for checking value, is the Barnes and Noble site - I think it says Used and Collectible on the tab at the top. That's only for authorized dealers, but I think they'll put you in touch with dealers through customer service.
At the very least it lets you know what your books are worth so you don't give away something valuable. You can always try E-Bay or Half.com and set the reserve at a fair rate so you don't lose out by underselling.
I have a first edition book by Mark Hampton titled On Decorating. I almost gave it to Good Will then changed my mind. I was shocked to find out it was worth a few hunderd dollars! It was published in the late 1980's!

Re: Looking to sell these but where??
was your aunt a published artist? if so her work may be worth something, but if not then Id say hold on to it and your grandchildren may benefit from the workings of an old masters drawings or paintings
