Question-- When to cash checks received prior to wedding

Our wedding is still 6 weeks away. We received a check in a "can't attend" response card today.

Do we wait until after the wedding to cash it??

We will send a thank-you right away, but not sure when to deposit the check...

i got one from my grandmas brother in Florida inside his rsvp regret - and I deposited it and sent a thank you - no picture (but he really has nothing to do with the family anyway).

I just got a check from my boss (She said I am giving it to you now because you need it for final payments etc she's great) and I plan on sending her a formal thank you with a picture. I didnt cash it yet though - I think I will wait til next week.

Anyone have an opinion - is this bad etiquette?

for my eng party i received some checks in the mail and i think i waited till after the party when i deposited everyone else's. i also waited on writing thank yous till after the party- oops.

I would cash it now and send the thank you when you send out the rest of the Thank Yous. You have up to a year to send the Thank you and it's only 6 weeks until your wedding - I see no need to wait the 6 weeks to cash the check. JMO

I cashed checks I received before the wedding right away. Sometimes people don't like it when you hold the checks...messes up their check books.

I cashed mine right away. Some people are VERY anal about their checking account.

Personally, there's nothing I hate more than when someone is holding a check of mine to deposit, it completely screws my accounting up. I usually wait like two days to deposit a gift check so it doesn't look like I was too desperate for the $$.

Edited to say....I also send a thank you as soon as I've cashed the check!

Cash it right away and send a Thank You...you can follow up with a Photo thank you later.

I think once you get to 2 weeks before...you can wait

I figure if they wanted you to cash it after your wedding, they would have sent it closer to your wedding date :) Cash it! Plus i agree w/ other comments (keeping track of checks, etc..) MO.

I cashed all checks immediately, and sent them a Thank You card immediately, with the promise of a photo TY to come in the future
