Jewish wedding question
Can you serve alcohol (champagne) before the ceremony? Is there anything wrong with that?

Re: Jewish wedding question
I don't think there are any jewish laws against it..it's more of a per-catering hall thing. A lot don't do it because they don't want people drinking during the ceremony.

Re: Jewish wedding question
Yes, you can serve alcohol before the wedding, and no, there is nothing wrong with that. I'm having a Jewish wedding with a champagne invite. As long as you aren't having a strictly Kosher wedding, it shouldn't be a problem, otherwise you would have to be sure to get Kosher champagne!

Re: Jewish wedding question
I know my friend's priest said if he smelled any alcohol on anyone in the bridal party, there would be no wedding, so I'd just check with the rabbi.

Re: Jewish wedding question
I am Jewish and we are not serving champagne before the ceremony. I don't want anyone being drunk before the marriage and I want everyone in the room to feel the awe of the moment and be drunk from that. That, and oh yes, FI's grandmother is a raging alcoholic!!!

Re: Jewish wedding question
yes I think you can. I got married at a conservative synagogue and from 7-7:30 was the called hospitality where they served champagne and strawberries and such.
I am sure it is fine
