MS fundraiser...thanks in advance if you read!! (long)
my friend bobby wrote me this...he is riding 100 miles this weekend to raise money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello,
As many of you know you, I am somewhat of an avid cyclist as well as a strong supporter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and a variety of it's fund raising efforts.
On September 14th, I'll once again be taking part in the NYC-MS Bike Tour. With the gracious sponsorship of GlobeOp Financial Services behind us (in the form of team uniforms and personal donations), myself and several friends will be riding to raise money and awareness for the New York Chapter of the NMSS. Every mile ridden and every dollar raised will make a difference in the fight against multiple sclerosis. Proceeds from the MS Bike Tour will be allocated locally to comprehensive support services and programs to help people with MS and their families cope with the consequences of the disease. The money raised will also fund vital MS research nationwide. At this very exciting time when progress is being made in MS research, finding a cause and cure has never been more crucial.
Multiple sclerosis is a lifelong and sometimes disabling disease of the central nervous system that affects nearly a third of a million Americans. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, just when they are beginning careers and families. MS symptoms are highly individual and vary enormously in severity and duration. They may include at one time or another abnormal fatigue, impaired vision, loss of balance and muscle coordination, slurred speech, tremors, stiffness and, in the most severe cases, partial or complete paralysis.
This grueling century (100 mile ride) will begin in Manhattan, take us up the cliffs of Harbor Road (across the Hudson) to Alpine NJ, and end up in Congers NY. We will then loop back to the George Washington Bridge and ride South to the finish line at Battery Park. Last year, Team GlobeOp was able to gain recognition with MS Society by raising nearly $20,000. This year, we are hoping increase this figure to $40,000.
With this in mind, I ask that anyone who would like to donate and help us reach our goal, please log on to the web-link below or make a check payable to the MS Society and send it to myself at 120 North Water Street Greenwich, CT 06830.
No donation is too small and any help at all towards finding a cure is greatly appreciated. If there are any questions regarding this event or if you'd like to find out more about the MS Society, please feel free to let me know.
