Attn Teachers

I graduated this past summer from Queens College, with a teaching degree and I just got home from handing in my paperwork to the regional office and they said right now there are no positions but usually people drop out of teaching the first 2 weeks, so keep your fingers crossed that I get a teaching job!!!! Also do any of you teach in Queens, if so are there any positions in your school????

I left my school in queens in 2000...but I probably could refer you to someone...in a hs

I don't teach in Queens, but I know that it is difficult to get a teaching position there because people tend to stay at their schools longer. You may have better luck in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The schools are overcrowded with students so in a couple of days, principals will be looking for more teachers to relieve some of the overcrowded classes. I got my first teaching job on Oct 13 because the school had a lot more students than expected. I will keep my fingers crossed for you, but I wouldn't give up finding a teaching job yet.

Good luck, I'll keep my ears open. I work in a private school, but everyone else I know who's a teacher is in a public school. Also, Mayor Bloomberg said on Friday that there are still 400 teaching jobs available in high needs areas. Especially the Bronx.

I really want to avoid leaving Queens, I already work for the dept of ed, so they said I have a greater chance of being placed within my district. It figures they year I graduate, is the one and only year they have too many teachers!
