We might be getting a puppy!! - Need some advice
Very excited...now that I'm going to be a full-time student, DH and I are thinking of getting a puppy! I've been allergic all my life but I've been getting shots and my folks have a bichon frise that I don't really react to. We were also thinking of maybe a schnoodle (half schnauzer half poodle) but are having trouble finding breeders. I was wondering if anyone knew of one that bred schnoodles?? I don't actually live in NY, but we could probably make the trip if necessary.
Also if there are any other breeds that people with allergies have had luck with, let me know. We can't have a big dog because our townhouse is small. We are looking for something that doesn't shed and is about the size of a bichon (i.e., less than 25 pounds) but we (especially DH) don't want a really teeny toy dog (i.e., no pomeranians)
Lastly, if anyone has other advice about getting a puppy (beyond the obvious that it takes a lot of time, etc), I'd love to hear it!

I know that there are dogs that are good for people with allergies...do a search on google...and I'm sure tons of breeds will pop up...
we got our puppy from home of the puppies in flushing...not sure if they have snoodles...but it doesn't hurt to ask...since they deal with all sorts of breeders...

any dog that has hair and not fur is better for anyone with allergies. i.e maltese, bichon, west highland terriers and schnausers(sp?). Hope that helped alittle.

Re: We might be getting a puppy!! - Need some advice
Hey Alison! My parents and both of my sisters have ****zu's. My mom has always had terrible allergies, my sisters also have allergies (so do I) but everyone seems good with ****zu's. They seem to be smart dogs and usually very loving and well behaved (at least in our family's experience).
I have read that no matter what dog you decide to get, make sure you spend a little time being around that breed first. And, if possible, test your allergies around a puppy AND a full grown dog of that breed. Apparently the skin oils, etc., change slightly as they mature.
Good luck on your search and keep us posted!
edited: the dog is a S*h*i*t*z*u. (it got **** above)

Dachshunds!!!!
My mother has SEVERE Asthma, she goes on a nebulizer like twice a day...and the only dog she has ever been able to have are Dachshunds (weiner dogs!)
We've had them since I was 3, and we even used to breed them. They are such cute dogs! But be warned, because of their short legs and long bodies, it's important NOT to let them get overweight, because they end up with major back problems.
