Ok, HUGE pet peeve of mine, anyone else?

So, I'm sitting here thinking about how my FMIL's bday is coming up and what I should get her and how it's always a friggin hassle. What my HUGE pet peeve is, is that she ALWAYS complains that she doesn't have anything nice, no clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc. So two years ago she really needed a watch. So FH and I spent not too much, but maybe between 100 and 200 bucks for a nice watch for her bday because she kept saying she needed one. SO, we give her this watch, she is so excited, loves it, blah, blah, but puts it away in her room and has not even once worn it. SHE NEVER EVEN TOOK THE TAGS OFF! So Fh said, hey ma, I'll exchange it for one you'll wear, and her response was no, it's too nice. She doesn't want to ruin it. Ok, here's where my pet peeve comes in: This woman saves everything that she thinks is "nice" and never ever takes it out. Not her china, her jewelry, engagement ring, clothes, etc. So she complains she doesn't have nice stuff, yet she does, she just won't use it. It is soooo annoying. I hate when people save things for the end of the universe. It just defeats the purpose of living. Ok, thank you for letting me vent.

my monster in law is the SAME way.. she always complained about not having nice silverware so one year me and frank bought her a beautiful 12 pp set.. and where is it?? in the friggin CUTLERY tray under her bed she "saves" it,.. then another time her boyfriend bought her a tennis bracet and she NEVER wore it cause it was tooo nice, so she left it in the box and just took it out to show people and put it right back...

my mom does the same thing. she has clothes, jewelry and shoes that she will never wear because there too nice, she doesn't want to ruin them. i mean, then why waste your money, buy stuff you will wear.

I used to do that! And then I realized one day I will be an old women who never used anything nice! So now I wear my nice jewelery and clothes etc! Gotta live for the moment!

I TOTALLY agree... my fiances family on one side they save all the good stuff... never use it...
the other side the grandmother is giving my her sisters china for 12... she says " so your going to take it, make sure you use it, I dont want it to just sit there"...which is what i plan to do


Girls--- if your family hoards the good stuff... never uses it... when they pass on(you'll be sad and all) but you'll have ALL THEIR BRAND NEW STUFF...

reminds me of the everybody loves raymond episode when frank asks marie about the guest bathroom towels and if she's saving them for when the pope comes over to take a leak!!

... hearzbells sorry to hear that... my grandmother always says she doesnt have much jewelery then my sisters buys her that for holidays and she goes "its too much i dont need it take it back".. but then wears it all the time..

karen... i cant stand at FI's house they put out SMALL decorative towels when company comes over... you can never dry your hands with it!

FMIL is so weird, we bought her a DVD/VCR player for her b-day, flowers for mothers day and a nice thing for the holidays and she tells us "oh stop it, dont spend your money on me. You have other things more important. Spend it on yourselves not me"

BUT if we didnt get her anything she would complain that we didnt get her anything.

My mom I refuse to buy her anything she can wear because she will never wear it. So for the holidays, her birthday and mothers day its always flowers, fruit baskets or a nice diner out somewhere.

my parents dont exchange gifts.. no birthday no christmas, no anniversary... sometimes they dont even acknowledge its their anniversary..

my mother hates getting gifts.. some years my parents dont get gifts.. but they never complain.. they reitterate thats what they want about 10 x first

this fathers day i actually got him fishing tackle which looked cool.. but my mother didnt get a mothers day gift..

dad got cologne this year for fathers day and mom got a small bouquet of flowers for mothers day. both gifts worked out great and they were both very happy
