How strange does this sound to you...

We are meeting with our photographer on Thursday to see our pictures for the first time. He wants us to pick all of the pictures for the albulm at that time. We picked a very unusual albulm that takes close to two years to create so he wants to get started on it right away. Makes sense to me, however, how am I suppose to look through over 2000 pictures and decide on 70 in one night?

I don't think its possible...you have to sit and look at them and then look at them again and then take out what you like and look at those...

That sounds impossible to me. You will defintely need more time to go through them all to be sure of what you want.
What kind of album are you getting?? I'm just curious why it takes so long to get. Sorry...I'm being nosey.

I thought the same thing...I have pictures of DH and I at his studio at 4am with coffee and our heads on the desk trying to pick pictures! LOL Our albulm uses digital pictures and the book is set up so each page fans out in sections where there are more pictures. I am not explaining well...let me try to describe an example. ON a right hand side page there might be a picture of me and the bridesmaids, I had three bridesmaids so I will ask for it to fan open in three different parts on the picture. One Fan will open up for my MOH and when it fans open there are pictures of my MOH and I through the day, the same for each girl as the page goes out...it is quite hard to explain...I don't even know if that makes any sense.

We did this, although we didn't have nearly as many proofs as you did. It was easy for me to decide really, and I wanted it DONE but I don't see how you could do that with 2000 proofs!

I agree - you'll have to look and re-look at your pics (and probably re-look again and again) before deciding!

I can appreciate his wanting to get started on your album, but I'd ask him for some time with the pics first.

That sounds so nice!! It is so different. Why does it take 2 years to do?? That just seems like a long time to wait. Mine won't be done for like 14-16 weeks...I thought that was long. LOL

You need to pick them out at your leisure not under the pressure of time. I don't think you will make the best decision like that. Just read your explanations above

The pages...are the pictures they are color coded and texturized ..maybe when I go there on Thursday I can take a picture of the one he has as an example....Cause two posts..adn I still can't think of how to explain it clearly.

The fact that you chose this special album is more reason to be careful about the pictures you choose. I also think it is important for you and your hubby to have time to think about the pictures without the pressure of a salesperson present. So if it takes 2 years and 2 weeks instead of 2 years, so be it. You want it to be right, so take the time you need to make it so.

take as much time as you need. You do not want to be disappointed later b/c you were rushed

I think it is impossible too. Is there any way you can pick up the proofs a few days before your appointment?

I agree w/everyone. Pretty much impossible, and you won't make the right decisions. You need time to really look through them

I definitely think it's odd that he expects you to pick your pictures for your album at the same time you're looking at them for the first time! You're definitely going to want to look at this over and over again before deciding.

Ours was put together the night we picked up our proofs. Our photographer puts together what she thinks is the best way to tell the story of the day with the photos. Then we went and took out/changed some of the photos. We could change any or all of them if we wanted to. She did an excellent job though so we only had a few changes. We got all of our proofs and spent some time going over them, but didn't change the album. We loved doing it that way...we should have our completed album in about 6 months from the day we did the album. Will your photographer be setting up the album arrangement this way?

Sorry. Tell your photographer that you need a few days to look over the photos and really decide. I am telling you that you need to look at your photos a few times before deciding what you really love. Some you instantly love, others you need time to look at a few times. I would NEVER do this .

It took me 3 months to decide on my proofs and that was kinda fast! I'd definitely see if something else can be done - there's just no way I would feel 100% confident of my choices without given any time to really look at them.

I laid all my proofs out on the kitchen table and stared at them for a week before I made any decisions! Every night I went over and pulled a few more pics I made a decision on. It's a long process, but one that's very important too

My friend's photographer had the same policy. In fact, when she went to the studio, the photographer already had the photos layed out that HE thought should go in her album!

My friend made some minor changes, but mostly went with the photographer's suggestions. In hindsight, she's a little disappointed.
She would have done things differently, given the time to look at her proofs more.
