How long did you wait to tell people you were pregnant

My friend was just telling me how a woman she works with is barely 2 months along and is telling everyone.

Her and I started talking and I told her I think if it was me I would wait because I dont want to tell everyone right away god for bid something happens in the first trimester. I think I would wait till the 2nd trimester to tell people or maybe wait till i started showing.

How long did you girls wait before you told everyone? (family, friends, work collegues)

We told family right away, of course. Then waited until about 8 weeks to tell close friends. I didn't tell anyone over the phone, only face to face. I waited until about 12 weeks to tell my colleagues. We'd heard the heartbeat & had a sonogram by that point. We knew we'd be ok. My thinking was that I didn't tell anyone who wouldn't also know if anything happened.

I can understand why someone would be excited to tell the news, tho. You can't really blame or pass judgement on her. Its so exciting, you want everyone you talk to to know!

This is a question that always comes up. The funny thing is that our friends and family know that we are TTC and they ask us almost daily. What should I do if I find out I am pregnant. Should I lie and say no or say yes only to close family?

Since I had a miscarriage before (at 9 weeks), I didn't want to say anything to anybody this time until I was 4 months, but my DH didn't want to wait that long, so we waited until we left the dr's office at my 12 week appt and then called up our family and told them. Then started telling everyone after that.

My first time around, I didn't want to tell anybody until I was 12 weeks along, but the dr's office called up my mother's house by mistake and even though they didn't say anything, my mother (being the scoop that she is ) figured it out, so we had to tell them all and then I miscarried the week after telling them -- so this time around I felt like that was a jinx and I was doing everything different. I became the superstitutious neurotic nut and add in the ever raging hormones, you know I was one step from Bellvue!

Its such a personal choice.
I just told you guys last week when I was 8 weeks, I wanted to wait till 12 weeks but its SO HARD to not share such wonderful news.
I told my close friends and family right away because they knew I had went for IUI.. so I would of had to of lied and said It didnt work.
The only person I refuse to tell yet is my 7 year old becuase he would be the only one that wouldnt understand how one minute your pregnant and then one minute your not
It would break his lil heart

oh no I am not blaming or passing judgement on anyone. I am sure its very exciting.

It was just a question to everyone on what they did.

When its me I am sure I'll want to tell everyone, but maybe would want to wait till I have an ok that everything is good from the doc.

Everyone is different and has different experiences. If someone has had a previous miscarriage they may want to wait, or some might just be more cautious than others.

We told everyone the day I took the test and got a positive! DH's parents were on there way from NY to FL, so we couldn't get in touch with them for a couple of days, but everyone else except for my colleagues knew. I told them after 12 weeks. We were both so excited and happy, we couldn't wait to share the good news. There was no way I could have kept it from everyone. If I had a miscarriage before, I probably would have waited. I don't think there is a right or wrong, just a personal choice.

I told my Mom after about 2 seconds. We waited a few weeks to tell everyone else. Eventually everyone found out before the end of the first trimester.

I am going to try my best to hold out, but people are usually so excited they can't hold out.

I never experienced a miscarriage before, however I wanted to wait until I was 4 months along and we told exactly 4 people prior to that.

We told family right away when I was like 4 weeks We were just too excited. We tried to wait till 8 weeks for the rest but it was very hard we were so excited and it happened on the first try so we couldn't believe it. I figured that if anything did happen I would have to explain why I was so upset anyway!!! Plus I can never keep a secret

We couldnt keep it to ourselves, we told everyone right away. Thank God we had a healthy baby but I know the "suggested" waiting time is once you're past the first trimester.

We told family and friends as soon as the second line appeared.
I told my close friends at work and my principal not long after that, and the rest of my co-workers at 12 weeks.

I am a really bad secret keeper when I have happy news to share.

I told close friends & family. He told EVERYBODY that would listen!!! But, for others I waited about 3 months or so.
