Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....
Here is another one - I was telling my mom about some gifts my friends have received at their weddings/showers/r-parties - Mom says well don't get your hopes up no one will be giving you anything that generous. Those are for people who don't understand what is appropriate to give - besides don't expect anything too nice from some people in the family and defenitely NOT from his family - none of them have anything to give - and don't forget you are mostly inviting students so you won't get much from them either
Mom was shocked at all the wonderful gifts from our party - funny part - the people who she said would be the least generous were the most and the people who should have been the most generous - gave the least...lol.
Anyway - next comment - Oh well since they were so generous now - expect much less for your wedding
Etd to say - that our favorite gift actually cost the least - my friend wrote a poem for us using the each letter of our names as the start of each line - placed in a beautiful frame with a photo of the two of us!

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....
This thread is really funny- On Mother's day we went over FH's parents house & his Father- who sounds like the brother on Everyone Loves Raymond said this to me:
"I don't know what you have to do Michelle, but I would love a picture of you and Phoebee (the dog) in your wedding dress! Can you stop here before the church? (ah- NOOOO) or, can we bring Phoebee? She can be your FG?"
Just when I thought I had heard it all... All this b/c he saw a picture at the dog's groomer w/ a woman in her wedding dress w/ her dog. It's not my dog- I love her and all, but I'm not going out of my way to have a picture taken w/ his dog.

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....
Oh I LOVE this one:
Me: When you got married did you have a band or a DJ?
Girl at school: Band? Band? Oh NO- don't you know - Only Irish people have bands at their weddings - Italians ONLY have DJ's. What a stupid question - did I have a band ha ha ha

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....
Okay, this is fun.
My boss (when I told him I was getting married) asked me if my FH got down on one knee when he prosposed and then he asked me if he had flowers too when he did it.
I brought my mom and one of my bridesmaids (who is a size 0) to the florist meeting. Florist told me to come back in a few months with a swatch of my bridesmaid's dress to get a better idea of colors and then looked at my bridesmaid and told her "that will be easy for you because you're going to need a ton of alterations"
I went to a bridal showcase with my mom, a bridesmaid, my aunt, my uncle and my FSIL and my aunt yelled at me for discussing prices with my FSIL. I didn't get that. It was like she didn't want me to help anyone else out. My FSIL is going to be marrying my FH's brother soon after I get married.
Before I finalized my bridal party, I asked my mom if she thought putting my FSIL in my bridal party would be a nice gesture and my mother told me "having a large bridal party looks very juvenille". What is up with that????

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....
the first one that comes to mind is my FMIL... she said, "No way... not while I'm alive!" I think we threatened to resolve that problem
Ohh. there's more:
Q-Why did you get a "silver ring? Was it cheaper?" Response: Uh, it's friggin platinum!
Q-Why aren't your groomsmen wearing tuxedos? Response: They are - they're called "morning suits" slightly less casual b/c our ceremony is at 1pm!
Q- what if it snows??? Response: what it it doesn't?
BUT MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE ONE:
us: we're getting married them: are you pregnant??

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....
1. MIL - wants me to hand out $30 a piece favor to the guests (mind you I have over 200 people coming) and she is not contributing any $$ towards our wedding planning 2. Relatives I don't know are asking to be in the bridal party not even asking me asking my mom!! - still fighting with my parents on that.
That's it for now

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....
My friend...BM...why didn't you get a diamond, noone is going to know that that is an engagement ring(it's a sapphire) My mom(whom i love to death)...how come you are inviting so many of his family(uh, cuz you told me not to invite certain people) Another friend...please don't ask me to be a bridesmaid, i hate wearing those dresses(she later said she really didn't mean it and sort of wanted to be in the party) And last but not least...You're getting married in January, better pray it doesn't snow(well, hello, i know that, how about that is the only time FH isn't working, and it's what we can afford)

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....
I work in a hair salon in Dix Hills some of the women can be very nosey and rude with q&A:
So how much money does FH make?
Are you paying for the wedding or are your parents?
And so I answer with how much does your Hubby make? And Why do you want to help pay for our wedding also?
As for other people April? You know it could rain? YEAH Hellooo it could rain anytime of the 364 days out of the year!!

I remembered another one.
FMIL looking at the first draft of the guest list. Who is Silvia and Paul? Well hello....they were on your list. Obviously if you don't even know who the hell they are we don't need to invite them

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....
one girl saw my ring for 1st time since we got engaged and said "very nice... finally!" And i have heard from family, people that claim to be friends, and complete strangers, "two years.... that's a looong engagement!" I was only 24 when I got engaged, and was going through grad school. I am graduating now, need to find a job and save. And excuse me, but don't have much time to plan the wedding when i am doing school, internship, and work!
