Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....

Ok I thought we can always use some laughs and a place to vent-

SO - I was talking with one of my BM's and she was telling me some of the horrible/funny/insulting things that were said to her and her friends while they were planning their weddings or at the actual wedding/engagement party/shower/bachalorette party so I thought it would be fun to see what has been said to us SO:

What is the rudest, funniest, weirdest comment that has been said to you during your planning states or on your actualy wedding day or other wedding day related parties.

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....

when we told Brians mom we were engaged she looked at the ring then at brian and said "you bought this"

I think the rudest things I have heard is the usual, "oh you really dont wan to that do you"

and

"Motorcycles just dont belong at a wedding. It doesnt matter if its your thing, a wedding is suppose to be classy and motorcycyles just dont belong" of course FI said back, well a wedding is who the couple is and we are bikers and if you dont like it then dont show up

1. "A year and a half? How old will you be then? You know what they say about the biological clock and all..." (I'm 28 BTW)

2. "Why so long? You don't need a big wedding" (excuse me, are you paying for it!!)

People are truly unbelievable!

I hated any remark about how much money a wedding costs, since it is after all one day

And one of my friends made some remark about vanity since I started wearing contacts right before the wedding and got a bleaching kit for my teeth.

(wasn't at a party, but it was still rude)

When we told someone what our song was.. he said "Are you serious?? EVERYONE uses that song!!"

(we have changed it since then but not because of this jerks comment)

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....

I took FMIL to see my dress. Thought it would be a nice gesture. When I put it on and came out of the dressing room she asked me if I brought a picture to the priest to ask him if it's OK to wear that to a Catholic Mass?????

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....

I can't come to your wedding, b/c most likely I'll be working (from an immediate aunt)! And the daughter of this aunt (23 and livin with a boyfriend, received a separate invite) not coming unless her mommy comes.

A vendor not giving us a pricelist to take home and forcing us to make a booking decision on the spot (of course it was a no)

A david's bridal location refusing to make the needed alterations

Another vendor, a photographer, lied to me on the phone. He said that he gives negatives of the pictures, but when we started discussing packages, he told us that he can't give us negatives with the package we were interested in. I fumed, exploded a walked out a few minutes later after a brief arguement, b/c my time was wasted.

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....

Weddings/births & deaths bring out the best and worst in people.
Everyone has an opinion & they just don't understand how it comes across sometimes!

One rude thing from a co-worker when I got engaged was- she looked at my ring and her first response was "So, did you get the skinny from him yet? like color, quality? how big?" Not even a congratulations! ha- it made me laugh to think that acutally might be important to her!

ALSO...

From a co-worker...

When she looked at my ring she said...It's so small. I was mortified.

PS...My ring is a carat and a half (big enough for me)!!!

Hmm... let's see:

"you should've thought more about your bridal party, it's going to be a circus"

"you still have time to elope" - my mom (we laugh at that one)

I'm sure there's more can't think right now.

GREAT THREAD!

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....

I got the BP thing - but it was "why is your bridal party so small - don't you have anyone else to put into it" - Ah I'm not putting everyone I met once into my party (I have 4 girls and 4 guys - don't know if I will have a FG or RB yet)

Why do you need to spend so much money for one day. People who put more than a few thousand into wedding are just stupid and selfish - esp. those who are paying for the wedding themselves - I have a girl at work who paid for her own wedding and now they are divorced and she still owes a couple thousand and they don't even have a house
- Are you implying that I will be divorced?

Well if FH doesn't do well (my FH started law school in august) you will be smart and call if off right?

Oh we don't like big churches like yours - they are so impersonal - so I guess that means we will just hate your ceremony. You should get married in a small church just like we did.- FFIL

Everytime someone tells FFIL or FSMIL that they have such a wonderful son and that they love FH - they are rudely told - We have 2 sons -humph- and just turn and walk away! (said to my grandmother and other family members who had not yet met FH's brother - but hello I'm NOT marrying FBIL!

Re: Poll - Calling all brides, newlyweds....

Oh god-so many when we first got engaged. These were all in the first months. Now everyone has gotten so much better and just tells me to do what I want-it's only one day!

My older sister: "I don't see why you need a wedding anyway, you live together already. It's stupid, you should just go to city hall. I don't think it's right if you've already lived together"!!!

My younger sister: "So, is that a designer dress?" (Yes) "Well how much did that cost?"

My grandma who I love dearly, when she found out I was engaged-keep in mind I'm in graduate school and we have no plans for kids: "I'm so happy to see you make something of yourself and start a family"

My FH's aunt: "We always thought (fh's brother) and his girlfriend were way ahead of you, I guess we were wrong...."(they broke up shortly after, and had only been together under a year but were living together-we've been together happily for 3 years)!

My other FH's aunt: "We'll be glad you're not living in sin anymore", And she was serious!

My future sister-in-law: If you don't get my mom's hair done, I will, she can't go like that! (FMIL wants to do her own hair and I think it's fine)

My mom: "Well if I can't invite so and so, how come his family has X amount of guests?"
"You're going to make us come all the way down there?"
"You HAVE to have your older sister in the wedding party, she's done more for you than your younger sister (I'm having older sister's daughter in the wedding, and of course she'd done more for me-my younger sister is 18 and I do for her!)"
"You cannot have an open bar, it's to expensive!" (Hello, we're paying for it-and who doesn't have an open bar?)

Not to mention all of the-why aren't you having the wedding here? (I'm only a 7 hour drive from my family!)? It's only one day, why don't you get a cheaper dress, place etc. etc. etc.
And there are so many more!
