Almost 4 1/2 years!
ETA: When we first started dating he asked me how long he'd have to wait to pop the question, I told him at least 3 years. I didn't want to rush. We moved in together 3 years ago and he proposed a year ago on Thanksgiving!

I sorta gave him an ultimatum ("well im being set up to date a few other guys by single friends, so we either move in together and get married or you take a nice long walk!!"). I just was tired of being in LTRs that ended up nowhere..

1 year 1 1/2 months... After 8 months together we started talking about it and I told him my rules... he has to wait until at least a year together to get engaged but not ON the year anniversary (I wanted a 1 year anniversary present, not just a ring, lol) and not on my birthday or a holiday, lol. We went shopping right after a year together for a ring and he planned a wonderful night for us in the city right before Christmas!

We started dating April 1, 2006 (what a fool!) and he asked me to marry him on July 30, 2009. We were original supposed to get engaged a couple of months before that but we both lost our jobs in January so it wasn't the right time.

My dad proposed to my mom after 2 weeks and she told him he was crazy! 2 months later, she said yes, they married 1 year later and they have been together over 30 years now and they are still happy and in love!! So don't say that!! The only thing that matters is that you & your FH are happy!!
