place cards vs. personal seating?

My hall told me that instead of place cards, they usually seat people personally when they arrive at the reception. Has anyone ever heard of this or been to a wedding where they do this? I'm a little concerned that it may take forever for people to get to their seats.

I have heard of this.. and although it sounds reallly nice, if you plan on having a large wedding, it can get really confusing and just be a bit too much.. IMO, i'd recommend you do this only if you plan on having a small reception..

Is this at East Wind? I have been to two weddings there and they did this. It was fine. I don't remember waiting too long, because everyone was enjoying cocktails and visiting. It really wasn't a problem.

i thought it was just a different way to do things. it wasn't that bad. if that's something you really want (having place cards) let them know. maybe they will allow you to do it.

I used to work at a place that had table seating (no place cards). It always worked out, there wasn't too much of a line.

People often thought it was very "fancy".

Usually EVERY waitress/hostess will line up to take the people so it runs pretty smoothly.

I was just at a wedding that had that and it was very nice and organized.
