high risk?

Just a general question....were any of you high risk during your pregnancy and if you don't mind me asking, why? What was different about your pregnancy? Like I said earlier, my DH and I are talking about when we will TTC and b/c of previous health problems, I already know that I will be labeled as high risk and that kind of makes us nervous. I have an appt at the end of the month w/a new obgyn for his opinion, my obgyn now said that she doesn't want me to deliver naturally when my time does come. She wants me to have a section that kind of makes me sad...I'd like to experience natural childbirth, I guess I have to see what other Dr. think.....

If you dont mind me asking, why would your doc want you to have a c-section?

(I wasnt high risk but I had an emergency c-sect)

If any of you watch the show six feet under, I had the same condition that the character Nate had...a brain AVM. I had it removed as well a few years ago but still suffer from headaches and other brain issues and must tsill undergo some treatments/surgeries. I was lucky b/c they found out about it through headaches, but they said that if I went undiagnosed, I would have died during childbirth b/c of the pressure and strain of pushing. It would have caused a cerebral hemorrage. Anyway, although it is removed, there are still reasons that they don't want me to go through that strain of pushing and would rather control the birth themseleves(just in case.) So, that's my story.

I am considered high risk because of PCOS and it's associated problems. As of now the only difference is that because I'm at high risk for gestational diabetes, I need to watch sugar and carb intake more so than the average person.
I'm also at high risk for miscarriage in the first trimester.
My ob/gyn specializes in high risk pregnancies, and he is wonderful. He's in Nassau county if you're interested.

All I can say is having a c-section is not that bad. You dont feel a thing and when its over (and you can feel your legs) you have your baby.

what is PCOS? Why are you more at risk for gestational diabetes? Is carb and sugar in take something I should start watching now? Those are my weaknesses!! Nassau is a little far for me from Bklyn., but thanks. You and I will have to talk about names since I think Tammy told me we have the same last name!! Funny, right?!

PCOS is polycystic ovarian syndrome, and along with that comes insulin resistance, much like in regular diabetes, which is why I'm at risk for gestational diabetes.
It's important for every mom to be to watch sugar during pregnancy, as well as carbs, because that adds to unnecessary weight gain, but it's nothing to get crazy about. For me, it could easily bring on diabetes. Actually, I think a diet very high in sugar could do that to someone without PCOS as well, which is another reason to watch. Being at risk, I need to be extra careful. Unfortunately, about all I can stomach these days are carbs, so I hope I start feeling well soon so I can start eating right!

How funny that we have the same last name! It's a pretty common one, but still...
Wouldn't it be funny if we liked the same names for our children?!

Well, when we have kids our son will be Jeremiah(after his daddy) and our daughter will be Katherine Mary(after her great-grandmothers-Kate.) But I must say I've always loved the name Patrick! Maybe some day if I have another son he will have the same name as your husband!! Funny!!

Okay, we're safe, because our names (as of now... this is subject to change at any moment ) are Blake Patrick and Alessia Christina.
Patrick would get such a kick out of knowing there was a little Patrick "OurLastName" running around out there if you have a second son!!

I do have one piece of advise: DO NOT just go with what one or two doctors tell you. Go to a high-rish OB! A friend of my parents was told that she could NOT have her baby at all. They told her the baby would be very deformed and the pregnancy might kill her. Well she had to go to 5 doctors before she found one that could help her. She delivered a perfectly healthy, normal baby girl.

Many doctors are so afraid of malpractice that they just say C-Section without much thought to you or your health. While I am not in a pre-selected high-risk catogory many women recommended The Thinking Women's Guide to a Better Birth. maybe that will give you some info. Also epregnancy.com has a high-risk section that you might get a lot of support on.

I am labeled high risk(I get the bright red folder and everything ) the only reason is my age(35). I am getting an amnio next week.

I'm 24 weeks pregnant and I am high risk, due to an emergency cercalge that was put in last month.
I am on complete bed rest..no perks or anything, bathroom and back. However I am planning on a ******l birth.

Every day is a better day for me and the baby. Please see a high risk doctor and get more knowledge and opinions, it can't hurt. Good Luck to you.
