Official Stupid Question Thread
I have a lot of stupid questions that I never feel justify their own post, so I thought if I made one thread then people could just add their Q&A's to it! haha
Ok, Stupid Question #1: Does every ceremony use the unity candle? I wanted to started some of the DIY stuff like that but not if it's something not everyone does. (We're getting married in a church.)
Stupid Question #2:I can't seem to get a straight answer on this - are sparklers legal in NY? I would LOVE to use them at my RH but don't want to bother asking them if they're not legal.
Hmm that's all I can think of for now, I guarantee I'll have more!

Re: Official Stupid Question Thread
as my FMIL would say, "no question is a stupid question"
so #1 i don't think you HAVE to do the unity candle, i don't think its a 100% must
#2 as far as i know they are legal in NY. there was another post not too long ago and i think they determined that it IS legal.
HTH!

I found state laws that said they were illegal but there is also a number to call to ask questions so I think that might be the best route. .

Re: Official Stupid Question Thread
Fox Hollow will only use the sparklers on the cake or VH. BUt they wont let the guests or BP play around with them if the event is indoors b.c then they end up burning their linens. Thats all I know.

Our church is going to have a candle up there already. Then my mom and my FMIL will light the tapers and hand them to us, and we will light the unity candle together.

Re: Official Stupid Question Thread
YOU CAN PUT A TEA CANDLE (I THINK THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE CALLED: I MEAN THE REALLY SMALL CANDLES), ON THE TABLE THAT WILL BE LIT DURING THE CEREMONY, THEN LIGHT THE SMALLER CANDLES FROM IT TO LIGHT THE UNITY CANDLE.

Re: Official Stupid Question Thread
YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO A UNITY CANLE, IT'S NOT UP TO THE CHURCH IT'S UP TO YOU....FH AND I WILL BE POURING COLORED SAND (PURPLE AND LAVENDER) INSTEAD.
WHAT DOES THE COUPLE DO WITH THE CANDLE AFTER THE WEDDING? I'VE NEVER SEEN ONE ON DISPLAY IN ANYONE'S HOUSE. I FIGURED THE SAND WOULD LOOK NICE AND WE CAN DISPLAY IT FOREVER.

Sparklers are a form of firework and are illegal in NYC. You can however try to use them in the hopes that nobody will care or say anything.

Oooh I have a very similar situation too except my mom is paying for 2 vendors, his parents are paying for the RH and we're paying the rest.
On mine I might just put our names and "together with their parents" since my mom is remarried and I don't want to get too complicated.

I know my church actually frowns on Unity Candles because of the whole fire hazard business but even still it was left totally up to us.. I am still not sure if I am having one though! So many decisions and so little time!!!

Re: Official Stupid Question Thread
Okay, here's my stupid question. I am trying to save money by doing my own centerpieces. I'm thinking of those cylinder vases with the one orchid submerged in water and then putting a few tea light candles around it. If I'm not paying a florist to create them, who sets them up?

I have the same question LOL! I am doing my own cp's as well. I'm thinking the RH does them when setting up the tables. I was thinking of having family friends set them up.

I have a similar situation. Both sets of parents are contributing to the wedding. I think on the invites I am going to put: "Meg and Jeff along with their parents" but not mention their specific names.

Re: Official Stupid Question Thread
Sparklers are legal in the NY, just fireworks are illegal and you need a permit... RH wont allow them. We bought sparklers and are putting them on the dishes as an extra gfit to the guests but we are saving some for the ceremony ... we are having a gazebo ceremony and want the guests to light the way when we walk down the aisle

Re: Official Stupid Question Thread
#! You don't have to use a unity candle, they're not mandatory.
#2 Sparklers are legal in NY as far as I know, we always used them as kids, I don't think they're technically fireworks, so you should be okay
