Italian Brides

I'm Italian and Irish and FH is Irish and Ecuadorian, I am very proud all of our cultures, but I have been to plenty of big Italian weddings, I was just wondering what Italian traditions you will be doing during your wedding and reception. I am still trying to decide on what I will be doing. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Italian Brides

I just realized. We are giving away bottles of wine as favors- that is very Italian too! I was going to attach the almonds in an organza bag tied around the neck of the bottle. I thought it would be cute.

you cad add the almonds to the beer bottles....the almonds arent only italian..different cultures use them differently...

ITALIAN WEDDINGS Five almonds signify five wishes for the bride and groom: health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity. These almonds decorate each place setting as favors, tucked into pretty boxes or tulle bags called *bomboniere* that are often personalized with the couple's names and wedding date.

GREEK WEDDINGS Sugarcoated almonds in traditional Greek weddings are called *koufeta*. They are placed in little bags in odd numbers and are served on a silver tray. Odd numbers are indivisible, symbolizing how the newlyweds will share everything and remain undivided. Tradition holds that if an unmarried woman puts the almonds under her pillow, she'll dream of her future husband.

MIDDLE EASTERN WEDDINGS Candy-covered almonds, considered aphrodisiacs, are always on hand (have too many and you may leave the reception early!).

Re: Italian Brides

We might do the almond thing, but I somehow think that that's a part of the GO ceremony, so maybe won't have it during the reception as well. I'm doing the tarantella, and will probably have some old school crooners playing during dinner while no dancing is going on.

Re: Italian Brides

My FH's entire family moved here from Italy 40 years ago. We are of course playing Italian music for a part of the reception, and we are doing the Tarantella!! His dad is gonna teach me

I was thinking of having Italian opera/classical music being played during cocktail music (think O Sole Mio) but we'll see.

I'm Irish and British, and totally excited to do it!
