i didnt watch, and wont waste my time now. my sis called to see if i watched and she said he was a horrible host, really grossed her out, and was saying really disrespectful things. apparently lots of ppl are complaining about it already to viacom and on the mtv blogs.

I got up and walked out of the room during his opening monologue. Then DH called after me "you are really showing HIM babe" He is such a azz I swear to God I am STILL mad at him.
ok sorry I had to get that off my chest bc I didnt think the MTV empire was going to crumble bc I got up and went into the bedroom - i just didnt want to subject myself to that.
But then DH didnt know who half the people were so he kept making me go in there ANYWAY and tell him who they were.
It was garbage. Any award show that gives Britney THREE awards is a freeken joke. And way to make fun of promise rings - how many 12 year olds were staying up to watch the Jonas Brothers perform?
I know my niece wanted to but my sister DVRed it so she could just watch that one performance.

i was SHOCKED that they didn't go to commercial..that alone makes it obvious to me that they knew exactly what he was going to say... i remember a few years ago at an award show (i THINK it was the oscars??) where someone started on politics and they started blasting the music(u know, the one that usually cuts off speeches when they get to long..)...he was just annoying & his humor really wasn't that funny either..looked like he needed a good shower if u ask me lol. And then to make fun of the promise rings?? so sorry that there's a new generation in the ent. business that's actually attempting to be a GOOD influence on the youth of america...and then he attemps to apologize but finishes with "all i was trying to say was that a little sex here & there never hurt anyone"...WHATEVER. 10year olds can't even watch their idols perform on a freakin' awards show anymore..

I am not into the vma's but I have seen Russell Brand stand up and think he is funny as all hell but I mostly watch BBC television. I can't say how he was on VMA's so now I must try to find a repeat and watch it.
But what I do know is how British/Irish people feel about Bush and how much they poke fun of our "leader". When Dh and I went to Ireland they were handing out anti bush flyers out all over the place and listing "problems with people who line themselves with bush politics." So I can see why he would put it in the act but to go on a rant is bad planing on his part since very few people are limited in the states to who he is. He should of done a one liner and moved on if anything.

i am not familiar with the host and thought he was absolutely painful to watch -- not funny in the slighest bit, obnoxious, etc. if i could have booed him off the stage i would have.
i watched about 10 minutes of the VMAs (got to see britney! she looked so much better!) and then turned it off.
missed the political comment though

oh it wasn't much.... he was saying how Katie Perry's song "I kissed a girl" inspired him to go through 9 tubes of cherry chapstick a day because it'll obviously make girls do anything. then he made a pervy comment on of the male celebs about meeting him backstage lol but i dont even remember what he said or what it was about...he was so all over the place that i couldn't even follow his "jokes"

theres always some a**hole who does this.
Even the beastie boys are known for this, i like them but they have a habit of doing this. One time when they won an award they only spoke about politics. Its MTV and its an award show, definitely not the place for it.
Ive seen him before though and Russell is histerical

When i was in college Alec Baldwin came to talk politics at our school...i was like "keep to making movies buddy!"...and don't tell me who to vote for when you make millions and i could only afford a state school and that was only because of a scholarship...I am all for Hollywood having causes to help out others but stay the hell out of politics!
