Federtal jury duty...HELP PLEASE
So...I was called for Federal Jury Duty on Oct 2nd...these cases can last for weeks...months...I am sending a request for a postponement on the basis that I am getting married 11/8 and will attach my plane tickets for my honeymoon 11/9-11/16
Do we think I'll be granted the postponement? (PS I also DO NOT want to have to take off of work considering Im already taking a week off in Nov ....I work in a school so its a big deal to take the week in Nov)

Re: Federtal jury duty...HELP PLEASE
have you postponed before? either way they should let you off. They cant expect you to put your wedding on hold. I know a lot of people who just let it go and dont respond. Unless it comes certified mail then they dont know you actually got it.

I wouldn't worry. You can usually postpone one time, pretty much no questions asked. You should be fine!

You are able to postpone it, just give them a date when you get back that you can serve. They can't make you serve since you have a trip planned. I'd give them a Dec 1 reschedule if they ask.

If your jury duty notice did not come certified or you did not sign for it, you can say you never received it in the mail. My IL's do this all the time.

They will postpone it because of the wedding and the financial loss you could experience. However, you should NEVER not respond to jury duty....if you dont respond, eventually there will be a warrant out for you. It will come back to bite you in the butt, maybe not next week, next month or next year, but it eventually comes back around and you are screwed and pay fines, etc.

Re: Federtal jury duty...HELP PLEASE
I had Federal Jury Duty about one year ago. I had to go all the way to Central Islip. It was horrible. You can't postpone it, because it is Federal. I tried to. You aren't allowed.
When you go there, and they eventually call your number-you are picked to go onto the stand. When they ask you who shouldn't be here and why, that is when you tell them that you are a teacher and you can't miss classes now because you are getting married in a few weeks and you took off for your honeymoon durin a crucial time of the year. Make sure you say that you don't feel comfortable leaving them with a sub.
They let all the teachers go that were in the jury box.
When you go-you can't get called for eight years.
Hope I helped.

Well they better hope it never catches up with them. From someone who is in the legal industry, it is just irresponsible for people to skip jury duty for 30 years, once or twice yes, but 30 years.....it's just wrong and they should be ashamed! I know I will get blasted for saying it but oh well!
