Nasty Vendors- Rant

Have any of you had confrontations with straight out rude vendors?

I'm not getting married until 2010 but I've started the planning process already. Some vendors dont take me seriously because my weddings almost 2 years off. They give me attitude when I ask for pricing and packages or ask to meet with them. Frankly, I think its responsible of me to start this early....especially when fh and I have insanely busy lives. These vendors will be losing my business. What do you girls think? Have you had similar experiences?

I'm sorry that you have to deal with this! ITA that it is responsible of you! Although I didn't encounter this, we did encounter a terrible vendor that was sketchy when we booked them and then totally messed up on the day of and that was Coachman Limo.

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

I know alot of the 08ers had a hard time and the 09ers with booking so far in advance. Most will not give you pricing bc they know their prices will go up for 2010 and they dont want to give you the 08 price. I think its responsible but at the same time it really isnt necessary to book this far in advance for your wedding-dont take this the wrong way I am not trying to tell you that you are wrong-Im just saying that it is far in advance and yes things do book-dont forget the vendors on this board are not the only vendors in the world. Unless there is a vendor you are helll bent on having and would hate to lose its not completely necessary to book this far in advance. I booked all my vendors about 10 months in advance and each and every one of them was available for my date-and almost every vendor is a popular vendor on this site.

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

this happened to me too, so don't feel bad - vendors assume that women 'change their minds' all the time so from their perspective, it's not worth it for them to spend time with you when you're just in the benchmarking stage --

i would highly recommend doing your research here and other boards - you'll find a LOT of info without having to deal with rude vendors -- goodluck!

I agree - I'm just under a year until my wedding and I'm not finding it difficult to locate vendors with my date free. Don't feel like you have to take care of it all right now! Definitely look and try to find the vendors you are interested in, but take pleasure in knowing that you have extra time to take care of everything!

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

When I booked my RH I didn't encounter that at all, in fact, some of my 2010 dates were already taken.

I am waiting for a lot of other vendors though, and getting ideas and doing a lot of DIY projects in the mean time. I made a bunch of monograms today, and am going to mock up menus and invites for the fun of it... if I change my mind? so what no money wasted.

Right now I'm doing a lot of window shopping and if I find exactly what I want, I'll buy it... if not, I'll keep looking.

Exactly, I mean I know people that booked early b/c they wanted to get it done and over iwth and I totally understand it-but if vendors are giving you a hard time then maybe just wait until the end of this year and then start booking and doing your appointments. Also I would be afraid of booking this far in advance-you can just jolted and want to cancel a vendor and you will lose your deposit (this happened to a handful of 07/08 brides) and they lost money-businesses can also file for bankruptcy-these are things that would be my biggest fear especially with all the money you spend already on the wedding who wants to throw away a solid deposit.

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

Well I JUST booked my Officiant and he was more than willing to work with me on a price that fit my budget,

I honestly believe that if they're nasty to you now.. that it's a sign not to use those vendors. Remember you're the patron and you deserve to be treated right.

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

I'm getting married this month (ahh!!!), but I've had all of my major vendors (hall, photo/video, band, flowers) booked since 1/06....we did this not because we were afraid they'd be booked, but because of my school schedule (Im in a medical program)... so I had to take advantage of the free time that I had back then- I wouldnt have had the time to do the research I did back then at a later point. All of the vendors we booked were more than willing to lock us in with 2006 pricing for our 2008 wedding. My FH and I had a motto if you will thoughout the planning. If we got the littlest inking of an attitude from a vendor, they were cut from our lists... with the amount of vendors we had to choose from on Long Island, why would we waste our time with one that was giving us a hard time about something. There was one florist who insisted I had to have white flowers for my bouquet when I walked in asking for all tropicals- hot pinks, purples, blues, etc!! umm... NO! and he was ARGUING with me during our appointment.

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

I'm sorry you are dealing with this
One thing I would definitely do is email liweddings about your experience, if they are vendors here. If you booked your RH and they are the RH's recommended vendors, I would tell them. I had a problem with one of my RH's recommended vendors and I told my RH and they straightened it out right away with them. It looks bad for anyone who recommends these vendors if the vendors are not professional or are not taking you seriously. Let the companies advertising for them know about it and help you in the process!!!!!

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

I encounter some rude vendors when I told them my wedding was in '09 we got engage 6/07. It happen to all of us do not let get you. Take your time booking you vendors do not give yourself a deadline especially since you have so much time. You can really reseach and get a better vision of what you want for your wedding. This is a lesson I learned when I booked my vendors so in advance. I started to doubt one of my choices because as time passed I became better aware of what I really wanted. I even had to cancel one of vendors but I do not regret it. I am so happy now with my new choice. hth

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

This is something that i see both sides from. I understand that you want to book in advance and it def helps having smaller payments to make..trust me! But at the same time, i understand vendors who might want to concentrate on people getting married sooner rather than later. They have the correct prices for packages because every year prices do go up, so they may not want to give you a quote and then have to say "oh yeah in 2 years it will go up such and such a price..but we're not def sure" It really depends on the vendor.

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

Do your homework then I'd wait till November-December or even January to start booking. Prices changing like everyone else said, plus I know you want to be on top of it..but I think it's way too early too book. If anything I'd book the RH and Ceremony spot then just wait. JMO

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

Wow i didnt get any nasty comments for booking that far in advance. I booked alot of my vendor in the beginning of 07 for November 08. I started looking in the fall of 06 and noone said anything more than, "you have plenty of time"..

Run far from the nasty vendors.. If they are nice about it and just say sorry were not booking dates that far in advance thats a different story, but if they are down right rude then politely let them know you will not be needing their services.

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

we started looking late Oct of 2006 for Sep of 2007 - - a Sun evening, either 9-9 or 9-16. almost all of the RH were available we finally took holiday week 9-2 because price was same as non holiday.
for the other vendors, we had some photogs unavailable because the holiday weekend was very popular. but it was only the 2 super populat ones at the time duet and 12th night that were booked. so I don't think you need booking so early. in fact, with the economy as it is, I'd be scared some would go out of business before 2010- - especially florists.

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

We had a hard time with that. And it drove me nuts because we are getting married the 2nd day into 09, and some vendors thought we had time, but we really didn't. Actually my vendors were great it was dress shopping that was the worst. As soon as they heard the year some people are rude.

Definitely not crazy.
I would keep you list, the ones that get ridiculously out of line with you cross them off-the ones that kind of say "its too early" maybe consider keeping them and call at the end of the year

Re: Nasty Vendors- Rant

been there!

we were engaged in 2005---and i was looking for vendors for our 2007....some vendors would act as if i wasn't a "serious" enough bride. puh-lease!! if i'm paying for it--i wanna know what i need to start saving early---and lock in prices early!

nothign wrong with planning early---if vendors treat you rudely---move on!
