RANT - WEDDING BAND (RING) NIGHTMARE
Ok, I am not someone who will post like crazy on this site. I normally read through the boards and get advice from them. And I greatly appreciate the advice I receive, so fanatics please don't stop posting! I warn you, this might get long.
My FH wanted to purchase my wedding ring from a jeweler located in Tri-county b/c his close friend swears by them. And although I had many trepidations about purchasing a ring from an unknown jeweler, I decided that we should at least check it out.
Well we went there and met a really nice man (or so we thought) who promised to create the wedding band of my dreams. We put down a down payment and were promised the ring in two weeks. When that time arrived, my FH went during his lunch break to pick it up, only to find out that they created the band in white gold, instead of plat. Then, surprise, they wanted an additional $$$ to create the ring in plat. But since we had it in writing that it was supposed to be created in plat, they had to honor the price.
Two weeks later we receive a call that the ring is in. Right away upon looking at the ring it looks scratched. So while i went home (I had a terrible migraine before) my FH waits there to be fix. When I see the final result and really look at the ring, it looks off. While the scratches are gone, the diamonds do not look even or level. I brought the ring to a jeweler to have it inspected and immediately he tells me that while the diamond quality is perfect, the setting is subpar and that every diamond in the setting is either not level and crooked. He offers to fix it for an additional 500 but we graciously decline.
With this said, we decided that we should return to the jewelry store and demand it either be fixed or get our money back. The jeweler promises to fix it or we will get our money back. We agree to this and have it in writing that he took the ring to fix and leave to return the next day to have it "perfect." That day arrived, and although it looked better, it was still not lined up evenly. It's hard to describe the disappointment I felt, knowing that if I accepted the ring, I'd know it wasn't right and that the setting was off. We tried to reason with the man to explain why we weren't happy and he became angered and refused to talk to us. We demanded our money back in cash (b/c we paid in $) and he refused saying that the ring was perfect and he even went so far as to throw it into another girl's face and demand she see if it was wrong. His daughter also claimed that no one's wedding band is PERFECT and that they all have imperfections.
Basically, instead of listening to us or giving us our money back, he wanted us to take him to court, or go downstairs to some office. However, he posted a sign that clearly reads "7 days with receipt FULL REFUND," and he had also said that. At this point, my FH called the police, who upon hearing that we were at TC. were very helpful and caring and said they would immediately be there to help us. That's when the daughter came over and said, don't involve the cops, we will give you your $$. Which eventually they did.
I cannot believe how shady some people are in their dealings. If you want the name of the jeweler, please FM me, I would be happy to tell. The reason behind this post is because I have greatly benefited from the advice on this site and I would want to forewarn a person before he/she would buy something from the jeweler.
Question I ask to you is... how many of you have wedding rings that you purchased with imperfections>?? B/c I really dont know why anyone would buy something they weren't happy with in the first place.

Re: RANT - WEDDING BAND (RING) NIGHTMARE
Wowwww I am so sorry that you went through this! People are ridiculous sometimes and good for you in sticking to your guns and not just giving in! When I first got my engagement ring I studied it (like all future brides I'm sure). I noticed that since the ring is a 4 prong setting that one of the prongs was not the same height as the other 3 prongs and the diamond was not sitting flat. Luckily when I brought the ring back maybe 2 weeks later they noticed it right away and fixed the problem within a few minutes. I would say maybe to ask your family who they use for jewelry....since most people tend to continue to work with someone for many years if they provide good service. Good luck!

Thanks so much for posting this! I'm so sorry these a-holes put you through this!!!
No, not all rings are "perfect", but you shouldnt be able to see it so obviously. Your wedding band should be as close to perfect as it possibly can be bc you will be wearing for years and years to come!!

Re: RANT - WEDDING BAND (RING) NIGHTMARE
Thanks for the helpful words. We went today back to a trusted jeweler that created my e-ring. It may be more $ but it is worth it.
It's nice to know they're supportive people on here.

Re: RANT - WEDDING BAND (RING) NIGHTMARE
What a shame that you had to endure such a headache I wouldn't expect that the ring be perfect, but if you are looking at it and can clearly see imperfections, then definitely the jeweler should be willing to accomodate you! That's their job - and word of mouth is the best OR worst advertising Glad to hear that you were able to get your money back and find a jeweler to create your ring

Re: RANT - WEDDING BAND (RING) NIGHTMARE
thanks for the post!! i never liked the feeling i got up there..felt like i was in a shark pool.
I know my Diamond has an inperfection in it but i like it that way. I can tell the diff from mine and it makes it unique and i like to think no relationship is perfect so it shows that. But i was fully aware of it before we bought it and it isnt somethign you can see at all unless i point it out and the light hits it in the right way.
You should never purchase something you arent completely happy with...esp something you will have forever!!!
and im assuming that since the daughter told you not to call the cops that they have ahd dealings with them before and would be in even more trouble!!
