Weekday Wedding

has anyone been to a weekday wedding? Something like the Thursday before a holiday weekend... or the Tuesday after the holiday weekend...

what did you think about it? should I mind people's schedule? or just plan away because its my day?

Re: Weekday Wedding

Its your day and you should do what you want. But if somebody special (that you care about) can't make it hen its up to you. If the plp who are complaining or u think will be complaining and they are not special then heck to what you got to do.

Re: Weekday Wedding

I have been to weddings on a Thursday. I had no problem with it. If there are certain people you really want at your wedding you could always send out STDs so people can plan for it. It is your day and if people really want to share it with you they will be there.

Re: Weekday Wedding

To be honest-I wouldnt go. the chances of me getting off the day or day after a long holiday weekend are slim to none as really is frowned upon by employers.

This of course is just my opinion, I agree its your day you should do what you want but to a certain extent

Re: Weekday Wedding

I work flexible schedule and if I took off for a weekday wedding I'd end up working two weekends in a row to attend. A thursday before a holiday weekend is the better idea of the two but I prefer weekends.

i've never been to one but i know i woudlnt be too happy having to. with work the next day, i'd show up late or exhausted. plus i cant imagine what the "vibe" would be like. i already feel teh vibe is so different at day weddings let alone a thursday night..just my opinion

ive never been to one& i know i wouldnt be to happy about it if i got an invite for one.
it is your day but i dont think yuou can expect people to take a day off for your wedding.
Escpecially in the polish tradition - Saturday evening wedding is it - you know people party and then next day is the after party.

Re: Weekday Wedding

I think Thursday, Friday and Sunday are def becoming more popular. I wanted mine on a Friday but couldn't so I am having mine on a Sunday evening. The people that care and are close will be there... and in the end thats what matters.

I am not going to stress about people being mad at me...or annoyed. I did what I can do and thats all. We are paying for it all ourselves without any help, so this is what I had to do.

I wouldn't worry about it. Its your day.... do what you want! Like my Mom always says you are not going to please everyone... so don't even bother.

Re: Weekday Wedding

well those that really matter to you will try to make it no matter what day it is! I was worried about having a saturday morning wedding thinking no one would come, but realized my close family & friends will show up and thats all that matters to me :)

I agree 100% but if you have to meet a minimum, you don't want to be wasting money by paying for plates that no one is eating because they couldn't make it. Just something to keep in mind. If you have a weekday wedding, make sur eyou garauntee a low minimum!

Re: Weekday Wedding

Think it can go both ways. You can think of it one way - if people love you, they will go out of their way to be there on your special day.

But you also have to keep in mind, that some people may have a tough time making it because of strict work policies or something. So even though they may love you and want to be there, some people may not be able to show.

I guess weigh both sides figure out which is more favorable

Re: Weekday Wedding

I agree. You don't want to guarantee a high minimum. Typically on week days they will lower the minimum significantly to book those days since those days are not as popular. They also lower the pricing pretty drastically. I found Friday nights to be $30-$40 pp less than Saturday night. Sunday and Thursday nights were even less than that that. It was almost half the price of a Saturday night (depending on the place). They are also A LOT more flexible and willing to work with you.

Re: Weekday Wedding

I'm having my wedding on a Thursday b4 the 4th of July..and my sister actually got married on the 4th of July & it fell on a Thursday that yr. The only people that didn't show were my moms work friends. However we do have alot of out of town family so for them it's a long weekend if they are in town you may want to discuss it with your family.

I just remembered I went to a Thurs wedding last summer. I took the day off and she had about 350 people. At the ceremony it was mostly family & very close friends (about 100-150) but the reception was packed.

Do what works for you & your family because throughout the whole planning experience you will have people telling you what they want anyway. You'll never make everyone happy.

Re: Weekday Wedding

If you can only afford a Thursday wedding, then that's what you should do! We're having a Sat night wedding, but will probably come even after the wedding considering the costs. Think of it this way: you'll be ahead at the end and will probably have a lot more saved toward that house or whatever. I'd say do it. I would definitely go. As long as you give enough notice, it should be fine. Also, another option is to choose a less expensive place on a Friday or Sunday. But Thursday night should be great. Plus, then you won't ruin everyone's weekend like I will be!

Re: Weekday Wedding

I know that genereally my jewish friends get married on thursday, so this is common for them. My friends (who arent jewish) probably wouldnt have been able to attend the whole wedding being that it was a weekday, so we did it on a friday night before a holiday becuase we figured that they would be closing early or taking off anyway

Re: Weekday Wedding

Im going to a wednesday one before thanksgiving. Its not a huge deal. I just had to think ahead about my holiday plans.

About an hour ago I was wondering why I didn't inquire about having my wedding on this day! I don't think I realized the 4th was on a friday!!

I've never been to a weekday wedding, but I think I'd feel a little grumpy about getting an invite to one, IMO. Of course, I'd go, but it would be a lil bit of struggle working it around my work schedule.

Re: Weekday Wedding

I worried about how it would affect my guests. My sister and brother are attornies in the city and have a long commute. It is your day and do what financially works for you, just don't be disappointed in those that can't make it.

Re: Weekday Wedding

I've been to a few thursday weekends. Usually around the holidays. I attended a Monday Wedding (Columbus Day) at 11 am. I didn't particularly care for it especially since it's not a paid holiday for me. If I didn't have the wedding to attend, I would have been at work.

Re: Weekday Wedding

When I was researching RHs, two (LE and the Crescent) told me how popular Thursday evenings are becoming. My RH was booked last summer for every Thursday night!!! If you are in love with a RH and the only night you can afford there is a Thursday, then I say go for it...but like the other brides here said, guarantee a low mininum and definitely send out STDs to everyone you want to attend!!
P.S. One of my friends had her (second) wedding on a Monday night and she had a lot of people attend
