Thank-you card etiquette
I am shocked right now...today I received a thank-you note for my good friend's wedding from over 11 months ago. What happened to sending them within 3 months?? I know it's a lot of work - but attending weddings down here is not exactly inexpensive for guests!
Do you think you'll send yours out within 3 months?

Re: Thank-you card etiquette
If I could, I'd make out thank you cards the night of the wedding...that's how important that is to me.
If we do thank you photos I am going to stress to my photog how important it is for me to get the thank yous out and to have that picture ready... if he can't, I'll do a monogrammed thank you and send the pics out with our Christmas cards.

Re: Thank-you card etiquette
I tried to get my thank yous out asap from our eparty...people started complaining about how long I took...Our eparty was the end of April and I got the thank yous out last week...Some people are really crazy with the thank yous- but I feel like as long as you get them out withing 8 months your good.

Re: Thank-you card etiquette
When I was looking at photographers, the one thing I noticed was that most give you your thank you cards within a few weeks. I thought that was great this way you could do them right away.

Re: Thank-you card etiquette
Hi. Im crashing. Proper etiquette used to be sending them out within two weeks of returning from your honeymoon. But now 3 months is the max. It changed cus of the trend of sending pro pics. Some people think its okay to wait a year- I think thats because some photogs take forever to get you your prints. But I really think anytime after 3 months is a bit crazy when I am on the recieving end.

Re: Thank-you card etiquette
I have found that sometimes the photographers delay in giving the pictures for the Thanks back fast enough so that could be a reason.

Re: Thank-you card etiquette
I spoke with a friend tonight who was recently married and she too said 1 year was the max. I was really surprised.
My concern wasn't so much the etiquette, I guess. I just honestly thought my card and gift to the couple had gotten lost, which made me nervous! I now know, after 11 3/4 months, that they received it

Re: Thank-you card etiquette
i really think thank yous should be received within 3-4 months max. after 6 months it becomes obnoxious, JMO.
I would love to get ours out within a month of returning from our honeymoon, 2 months max. I know I'll be busy because I start my last year of law school 2 days after we return, but the longer I wait the closer I'll be to exams and it only gets harder.
I considered doing picture cards but decided to go with printed linen cards that match our invites -- we ordered them and received them already, and I've been using them for gifts we have received so far. I may pre-address the envelopes before the wedding to save time afterwards and get the thankyous out faster.

Re: Thank-you card etiquette
i'm still waiting 6 years for a thank you card from a good friend
i honestly wouldn't go over the 3 month mark. So you fill a few cards out each night then you're done!
I sent cards out a week or 2 the max after my engagement and actually got thank yous for the thank you cards haha

Re: Thank-you card etiquette
i think nowadays 1 year has become the max...especially with brides who have to wait for their photographer to design a TY card for them---and order and ship them out. i think usually people take about 6 months or so to send TYs at max. but you can go up to 1 yr.
but i do agree that 11 mos. is a big long!

I hate to disagree but that is a myth actually- you have one year to GIVE a gift after the wedding but the proper etiquette is three months due to waiting for the photographer to print out the thank yous
i try to just appreciate any thank you - my cousin sent hers out after a year and started it with "wow how this year has flown by" LOL

Re: Thank-you card etiquette
After searching again, I see that there is a myriad of opinions on this topic (some sources state one year, some state 1 month, some state 3 months, etc.)
Based on this, I conclude that etiquette is not standardized, and....1 year is way too long to send out thank-you cards
