Re: I need your help

celery all day Jen? Seriously?

I found that by taking up my fiber intake, I lost a couple pounds. Nothing earth shattering but 5-6 pounds just from replacing my morning bagel with something fiber-y. A bran muffin, Fiber One cereal with fruit, Kashi Go Lean Crunch. All those things will make you "go" and you'll feel lighter. It really makes a difference.

Cutting down your carb intake will def make a difference as well. They make so many alternative pastas that are packed with fiber.

My dad recently gave up anything with white flour, white sugar, etc... and he lost 30 pounds in 4 months & his blood sugar is down 20 points. If he wants carbs, he gets whole wheat pasta. If he wants sweets, he eats fruit. He is so thin right now.

ding ding ding.

caroline is correct.

more smaller meals is the key... you don't want to f*ck up your metabolism...
celery has no nutritional value (aside from water)
I would use it as a snack, but not all day.

and ps... careful with the fiber... I had a lunch packed with fiber yesterday, and let's just say I was exorting many many SBDs (silent but deadly)

Re: I need your help

I did WW and lost 8 lbs..whoopdie friggin do

I think part of the problem was that I already did some of the things that WW suggests so I basically plateau-ed

1. increase water intake
2. don't add salt to any meals & watch the sodium already in foods
3. decrease caloric intake
4. portion control
5. lots of small & healthy snacks

Best thing I ever did- I stopped drinking soda & lost 11 lbs- I swear to god!

Since I stopped WW- I just fell off the bandwagon- totally my fault, I have since gained 4 lbs back..

All I do now is go to the gym 2-3xs a week... I feel ya, its sooooooooo annoying

And it makes you feel fuller longer, like protein will. If you have an egg for breakfast, you will put off hunger for longer than if you eat a bagel, waffle, etc.

Also, for WW people, I wasn't losing anything either. Then I switched to core. I'd been fighting it b/c I didn't want to be limited in my diet but the core program works great! Because you are only eating foods that have nutritional value, you feel more full. Like when I was on flex, I definitely would always choose a 100 calorie over a banana as they had the same point value but the nutritional value is way different.

Definitely give core a try.

ETA: with regard to exercise, if you exercise, you will be forced to drink more water which helps you lose weight and you will be less hungry.

I found the gym didnt work for me as far as losing-I gained because my muscle went up but no skinny minniness. Making sure I am never hungry really helps. Liek carolinex2 said small meals, lots of protein and just trying to be sensible.

Kath hsd good suggestions about being fit. Is there something you like doing? Kickboxing helped my metabolism alot. It was stretchign and cardio and fun for the most part. I HATE the gym so I need to find things I like doing.

What about signing up for some of the fundraising walks? Thats a godo way to get you started moving around. Some of them are crazy long but most are doable.

Re: I need your help

Hmm well atb least you're active. I tend to eat well but slack with the excercise and then I have no muscle tone.

Portion control is key. I eat everything but in moderation. The SouthBeach Diet Taste of Summer cookbook has some really great recipes. I am not suggesting it as a diet but findign ehalthy food you like, really helps with portion control.

I think heather said to cut out soda and I agree. There was some study featured on yahoo that said even diet sodas can make you crave sugar because of the artifical sweeteners. So you shouldnt have anything really but water. I am trying that now because I have been craving sugaraltely like no one's business and usually I am good.

Drink lots of water obviously and try to combine protein and healthy carbs in snacks like apples and peanut butter; you stay full longer.

Yes Seriously.
The Celery diet is a bit controversial and all won't tend to agree. However - I did learn that fasting is actually good for your body 1 day a month. More extreme measures are 1 day a week. That is where the celery comes in. Girls you won't die from not eating 1 day.

This type of diet is just that. A diet to get you back into good eating habits where it will cut down your portions during the day. Diets are meant for short term - Staying fit and healthy is a lifestyle. Two totally different things.
If your exercising I DON'T Recommend this diet!
You should be eating food for energy to burn.

In fact I don't even suggest the Celery diet should go more than 1 month or 2 max. Than everything in moderation and when having carbs go to the wheat, rye, or multi grain for more nutritional value

Gem- I recommend the Master Cleanse. DH & I did it before Thanksgiving and it worked WONDERS..

but don't do it to lose weight... you'll most probably gain it right back... it's a GREAT detox

I have done something very similar -it is fine but no weight loss with this - very temp like a day b/c your on the toilet.
My fasting works much better w/the one day a wk as I lost that weight bfr the wedding I wanted off. It melted off it was insane. I didn't even crave the things I loved .. Chocolate and bread not even on HM. Ever notice if you have bread or Chocolate you want it more like less than 3 days later and you just cannot stop. There is a reason for this.
I found the book - 'KEVIN TRUDEAU' - Natural cures "they" don't want you to know about. Was simply dumbfounding.
Btw- from that book I cured my high Blood pressure by eating a tlbs of raw coconut oil a day for 3 months straight. Now I don't have to take my meds anymore.

edit for spelling I suc

Re: I need your help

Honestly. I hate gyms. I don't want to put makeup on and shave my legs just to get all sweaty. I know. It makes me sound like a gross slob. I'm not. I just like to be comfortable when I excise. I got a treadmill. Do it everyday (Monday through Friday) after work. It helps.

What about NutriSystem? I know alot of people that lost weight on that! Its a little $$ but it saves you the hassel of having to plan and cook meals for yourself.
