lobster craving...

I want lobster, but dont want to spend a bajillion going out to eat. Is Red Lobster actually good food? I grew up in Maine so Im used to fresh maine lobsters. But it says they use maine lobsters... do they cook them well or do they over do it and make them rubbery?

Re: lobster craving...

i have never been there but i consider red lobster to be about the same as olive garden - on my list of places i would never step foot in

i guess i am a lobster snob

maybe you can find a nice place on the water with a killer lunch menu and you can try it there?

agreed. Red lobster was the "nice" resturant in my neighborhood where I grew up and the food is EH at best. I think Tilde has the best idea with lunch menus at nicer seafood places.

Freeport is exactly where i was thinking. I go to a place in brooklyn for lobster sometimes at a decent price. I think it is called Nick's?

I also had it in Freeport but it was a while ago and I can't remember which restaurant - but I definitely went for lunch!

Go to Jordan's Gina! That's where restaurants go to get their lobster!

They'll steam it for you and everything! I'm pretty sure they even offer pre-packaged "clam-bake" type dinners to take out!

Re: lobster craving...

I love Paddy McGee's !
We recently went to the Schooner in Freeport and it was not good. Oysters had no taste at all.
How can something raw have no taste ?

Anyway, Red Lobster pre-cooks their lobsters, so you are getting a reheated frozen one.
Yuck.

There is a nice place around the corner from me called Crossroads, it is located in E.Northport and they have Lobster night on Wens.

I actually just prefer the tail. Some of you may consider this along the lines of Red Lobster, but Outback really makes them good! You said you're in Long Beach...there is one in Island Park on Long Beach Road.

ETA: Oh, and if you want to buy fresh whole lobster, there is Jordan's Lobster too!

I say NO to that. I live here and met the DH there. Food is all tasting menu at this point since they changed it to 'HONU' now. Totally overrated in my opinion.

Re: lobster craving...

I LOOOOOVE Red Lobster and I have no shame in saying it. Some people call it "ghetto" and I hate that. Everytime I eat there I love the food. And it really isnt that cheap. We easily spend up to 150 or more.

If you are anywhere near NYC there are places that have "lobster night."
City Crab on Park avenue does a 22 dollar price fix before 7 pm for a lobster bake!

Exactly what I would recommend. Yummy lobster
Oh and if you like New England Clam Chowder there is sooooo good! I went 2 weekends ago with Scott and all was good but the corn was not as sweet as it normally is.

A couple of blocks from Sands. I think the cross street is Austin. Isn't that Island Park...it's not still Oceanside, right?

You're right though. I didn't see your post before I edited mine. Jordan's is a good place to go.

I know it's way too far away but if you are ever further out East, definitely try the Port Jeff Lobster House. They are a fishmonger turned restaurant that still has the fresh counter out front. Very reasonable and out of this world fresh and delicious.
