awwww that's so sweet of you!! Maybe a really pretty orchid? Those can be pretty expensive for a good one, I was in a flower store yesterday and they wanted $70 for them- but they were beautiful!!! I'll keep thinking of ideas!

Maybe some type of precious moment with mother and child. Something she can keep and always remember her 1st mother day!

I was actually thinking of doing something like this for my sister, because it's also her first mother's day!! Anyone know a good place to get precious moments?

Re: My sister's first mothers day....what should I get her?
For my first mothers day my sis in law took a pic of my son ( 5 months at the time ) holding a card that said I love mommy....it wasnt a perfect pic...but she had the frame engraved with the date etc....it is one of my all time favorite gifts

Hallmark stores carry them. So do most card stores I think.
What about making a photo album of her first year as a mom?

I love that quote so so much, it's 100% true.
DH's family isn't big on hugs and kisses and my parents are HUGE HUGE moosh pots. My Dad the second he sees me gives me a huge hug or even if I'm just standing next to him....just grabs me and hugs me for no reason other then to tell me he loves me. DH & I just had a convo about it too...I said when we get pregnant I need you to hug our children the way my Dad hugged me because it's one of the most important things and I fear that since you weren't brought up like that, that you won't do it. & it's not that his parents were loving, great parents there just aren't a lot of hugs passed around and that's something that is so so important to me.
(sorry TOTAL tangent!)

Awww Devon, that's so sweet... my dad wasn't a moosh pot (I keep typing Mosh Pit) but my mom is, so I kind of had both your and DH's situation. But my DH's parents ARE mooshy but he squiiiiirms when facing anything too sentimental!!!
Interestingly, even though DH is kind of restrained with me (more prone to make a joke than express emotion) he's UNBELIEVABLE with the little lamb He makes sure I'm eating all the time, sleeping enough, won't let me poke my belly, etc. You'll see, having a kind of "allows" them to express emotions, where doing it with adults is "taboo"!!! I"m sure your DH will be the same way!!!! ------------------ PS Let us know what you do for your sister, that's a really sweet idea!!!!!

Re: My sister's first mothers day....what should I get her?
When my niece and nephew were born my parents bought my brother and sil a tree. It's so cute my niece waters her tree and loves to point it out to people. They also had a poem about roots in a family like roots of a tree set a foundation ......I'm probably messing that up big time but it's something like that.
I think you should give your sister something that every time she looks at it it will take her back to the day she received it. Something she can keep for a long time.

Re: My sister's first mothers day....what should I get her?
I made her a journal (I got touched by Carolines post from earlier)

I wrote this on the inside:
To My Sister,
Eddie is a lucky little boy to have such a wonderful mother like you. I made this journal for you so you could write Eddie letters whenever you see fit, about his first experiences or just a random day he did something to make you smile. As we grow older we forget the little things & I thought this was a nice gift for not only you to look back on but for Eddie to read years from now.
You are wonderful Mommy!
I love you, Devon
