Re: teachers - do u work over the summer???
Last year was my first year teaching and I did not work over the summer. This summer I am also not planning on working. DH has not said anything about it. We will see what happens next summer.

Re: teachers - do u work over the summer???
DH is a teacher and usually doesn't teach in the summer, but we could use the extra money so he signed up to teach summer school, not sure if he'll be doing it yet.

Re: teachers - do u work over the summer???
even though DH and I are in the midst of buying a house, i am not working this summer. i am actually taking a bout a month's worth of staff developement classes. the number of credits for my next salary differential is going to boost my pay for the fllowiung year more than i would have made over the summer....
if someone throws some tutoring or what have you my way, i'll take it, but i am not going to kill myself either. i teach self-contained special ed. i need a break.

Re: teachers - do u work over the summer???
I teach summer school. I take the checks and put them in the "house fund." This is my first year teaching, but I worked last summer after I graduated too. We need the $$. I'm going to try and tutor also.

Re: teachers - do u work over the summer???
NO WAY. I totally need that time off. By the end of June I'm about ready to drop dead of exhaustion. I wouldn't trade my time off for any $ I could earn (even though I could definitely use more $ lol)

Re: teachers - do u work over the summer???
The company I work for is hiring teachers for our summer camp program. It's an educational science camp, half days, and we try to only hire teachers and education majors. We have locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk FM me if you want more info.

I will be FM'ing you for DH. He doesnt want to work the summer (never has) but with us trying to save money that program sounds like a great idea.

Re: teachers - do u work over the summer???
Hi,
First, I want to apologize for coming into this chat topic. I'm not a teacher, but I have permament certification in NY.
I'm thinking about doing online tutoring (part-time to make a little extra money), but there are so many websites. I thought that perhaps you could offer some suggestions or provide some insight.
Thank you

Re: teachers - do u work over the summer???
ugggh I'm seriously worried I won't be able to manage without making extra cash this summer. I have no idea what I'll do though since I'm taking a bunch of classes.
Ugh I don't get it....yes we get those months off but we friggin' earn 'em and we STILL don't make enough money.

Re: teachers - do u work over the summer???
I used to teach summer school for three summers before my wedding. I took off last summer because basically after all the wedding planning and stress I needed a well deserved break and let me tell you...I LOVED BEING OFF ALL SUMMER!!!!!! This year I've done a lot of supervisions throughout the year and I also took on the position of Mathletes coach (I know I'm a nerd ) so that way it made up for the money I would have been making teaching summer.
