Looking for good price on apartment in Suffolk!! HELP!

My FI and I are STILL looking for a reasonable place to live together. We've had friends help us look, but everything is SO expensive, and we're also paying for most of this wedding ourselves. I'm still at home with my parents (UGH!) and he's at his Grandparents. We're looking for a place between our job places (he's in Massapequa and I'm in Bohemia). Also, we've got 2 small parrots (VERY quiet) and a small collection of reptiles (nothing that would harm anything!).
If any of you know of something that is reasonably priced for the island, PLEASE let me know!! We were hoping something that included utilities for $1,000 to $1,200.

Are you looking to rent or buy?

We're just looking to rent. We can't afford to buy yet.

Re: Looking for good price on apartment in Suffolk!! HELP!

Sorry, I don't know if I can be much help. I asked because if you buy, your monthly payments can be in that range, but there's the hefty down payment. I haven't looked at rentals. You might want to try Farmingdale, Islip, West Baylon. I looked in those areas, but I think having the pets might make things more difficult. I'll be moving into a community that allows pets, but only if you are the owner. Renters cannot have pets. Did you try looking in Newsday? They usually have quite a few listings. SOrry I'm not much help. You'll find something. Just be patient. We looked at at least 30 different co-ops before we found a nice one that is also affordable. Maybe something that is in someone's house would be cheaper than an actual apartment community?

Yes. That's what we were thinking of doing. We heard that a mother/daugher is nice, but to find one is another thing.

If anyone knows of one of those, please let me know!!

Thanks!!

When I was looking I checked www.realtor.com almost every day. They have an option for rentals. You might want to try that.

I live in the the Brookwood Garden apartments in Coram, which I realize is to far for you, but I know they have a complex in Bay Shore also. I am not really familiar with the layout of the Bay Shore ones, but I know that they were starting at about $850-900 for 1 bedrooms last year. I wouldn't even mention the birds or reptiles (complexes are mostly concerned with dogs & cats). They don't includes all utilities, but they do include heat(& if you get gas cooking than that's include). They also have a complex in Holbrook(right Off Sunrise on Broadway) & I know they have the same layout as I do(a HUGE 1 bedroom) & around $1005. If you need any further info FM me.

i really wouldn't worry about the pets. We have 2 pets (a portly chinchilla which is the size of a small cat and a hamster) and when we mentioned it to the rental agent where we live she laughed at us, she said it really only applys to dogs b/c of the barking and damage they could cause. You could mention the parrots but as long as they are quiet I wouldn't worry.

There is a complex called Saddlerock Apartments in Bohemia right on sunrise highway that is really nice they give you your own washer/dryer and dishwasher. I think its about $1100 per month. That is where I wish my FH and I could live but we are converting my parents garage into an apartment. That is the only way we will be able to afford and save for a house.
