Went to a wedding at Windows on The Lake...
Me and Fh went to a wedding at Windows on The lake recently , just wanted to give you my review. The place was beautiful, as well as the view of the lake. The room was pretty and clean, and the bathrooms were also clean and well maintained. However, while during the reception the Bm was showing the room to another couple! That I think is a horrible thing to do. I know if it was my weddng I would not want a total stranger looking in at my wedding. The food was excellent, but when they were cleaning up the cocktail hour, my sister and I as well as my FBIL and Fh saw the workers wearing gloves and putting the cheese in containers and that means they were reusing the food from the cocktail hour! If I had known this I do not think I would have eaten anything at the coctail hour, also whe n they were going around with trays of hors d' verues, they did not give you toothpicks!!! So, everyone was putting there hands on the food and trays! YUCK! it also looked like they were reusing the ice sculpture, we heard the workers say they were going to put it back in the freezer. I am not sure if it was there house DJ, but make sure you request that the DJ play the music of your choice , some of the music was very childish during that time.(Disney music, etc) . The drinks were great, they even had frozen drinks so that was a plus. Also, they made such a deal out of meeting your hosts with a big champagne entrance, it was kind of tacky. overall, it was not too bad of a place , just be cautious of a few things if your wedding is there.

Wow, I'm not getting married there, but you really took notes and that is definitly some tips I would want to take into account. Esp. the part about the toothpicks. It just shows the quality of the place. Thanks.

Re: Went to a wedding at Windows on The Lake...
OMG - we came very close to booking our wedding there! (actually we were leaning towards the other place across the lake, Beach Club (i think) but same practices and same owner. now I have no regrets... thank you! Funny you mentioned that champagne entrance toast thing, because as the BM was explaining it to us I thought the same exact thing! that it sounded so tacky and would have opted against it. thanks for the review

Re: Went to a wedding at Windows on The Lake...
I was married at The Beach Club in Sept of 01 and I had the champagne entrance. Not only is it not even close to tacky, it is actually beautifully and tastefully done and many of our guests commented on how special it was.
As for reusing food unless you have first hand knowledge that they were doing that, I would not presume that was why they were putting it into containers. There are many catering establishments that donate leftover food from weddings to soup kitchens and homeless shelters. I can assure everyone that the food at my cocktail hour and wedding was all fresh and excellent. They did use toothpicks for my cocktail hour. I know because both my hubby and I attended our coctail hour. My brother who is the executive chef at a 5 star restaurant in Boston, said he was amazed that a catering facility had such excellent food. He even mentioned it to the Maitre'd.
As for refreezing the ice sculptures that is a very common practice at catering halls and restaurants. They are expensive and time consuming to make so if they can be reused they will be.
I have nothing but positive things to say about The Beach Club and our guests still comment on how wonderful our wedding was, almost a year and a half later.

I agree w/wendy many facilities give leftover food to shelters & soup kitchens lovely idea i think i would hate to think all the leftover food goes in the garbage.

Re: Went to a wedding at Windows on The Lake...
As for reusing the food from the cocktail hour...my sister used to work at crest hollow cc and she said that they had to throw away all of the food because of the health codes. They were not even allowed to donate it to the homeless or shelters for that reason. Whether or not all catering facilities follow the health codes is another story.
It's possible that the staff is required to wear gloves at all times when they are handling food, whether they are serving it or throwing it away. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are reusing the food.

Re: Went to a wedding at Windows on The Lake...
You know Wendy I NEVER said anything negative about the beach club estate!!!! I understand it is the same owners, maybe they run each establishment a little different. I was very offened by your rude remark to me, I was only trying to tell what I observed at a differnet establishmnet then where you got married. GEEZ!
