Controversial and Interesting - Pregnant Man

Labor of Love

I found this fascinating, inspiring, and yet another indication that we, as a society, need to stop trying to define people's roles in terms of gender and identity.

I, for one, am perfectly okay with this.

What about you girls? Thoughts?

I am perfectly ok with this...its just sounds strange b/c its not the norm when you think about pregnancy but hey...if they can provide a loving and happy home to a child more power to them

I doubt this is the first time it has happened (I just can't believe he is the first transgender to ever do this), just the first time we're seeing an article about it.

I'm all for it. If you want to devote your life to loving and caring for a child, I don't think that there is anything wrong with it regardless of gender or sexual preference or identity.

I wish them all the love and luck in the world!

Re: Controversial and Interesting - Pregnant Man

i dont know, i dont want to be offensive but i just dont think i could support something like this. . .

i feel like, he chose to be a man - and all that entails including not being able to carry a child, so i just don't feel comfortable with his decision to suddenly decide "hey i want to be a man AND still have a baby"

I can't really express myself about this because it is the first time I have ever heard of it but I just can't support it

I am just being honest when I say it makes me feel VERY uncomfortable

I have to agree with you. I have nothing against gay people or transgendered. My SIL as most of you know is gay and we had 4 gay couples at our wedding. Its nothing new to me but I think the carrying of life is a nature thing and women by nature are emant to carry babies. Period. teh females carry young except for I think seahorses?

Anyway YES I know "he" is naturally a woman but chose to live life as a man so as Tilde said, I think he should stand by that choice and not try to have the cake and eat it too. JMO

As for the comments beign made about the ability to parent. I don't think thats what either of us is impying. as I said my SIl and ehr long term partner plan to have kids. I have NO issue with that. Our gay guy friends wnat kids and plan to either adopt or have a woman inseminated. NO issue with that.

But I think this particular situation is pushignt he nevelope a lil bit and as parents you wnat to protect your kids from everythign and I just feel this situation woudl REALLY be making the kid a target for ridicule in school. hard enough to explain two dadies or mommies but they can accept that. but asking a child to wrap their mind around "My dady IS mym mommy" is a little much.

Re: Controversial and Interesting - Pregnant Man

I am totally for this! There are so many people who walk around this world unhappy, trying to conform to the societies "norm" Sounds like him and his wife are a stable and happy couple. It is a shame that so many Dr's would take them money nd then turn them away due to their own uncomfortability. A dr should not be able to pick and choose their patients. I mean what if it was a white dr turning away a black patient, would we think that is right?!?!?!

I love that this country is taking certain steps to stop being in the dark ages, I mean there is a woman and a black man running for president, that is a huge step forward.

Tolerance people, doesn't take much, just an open mind

yes thank you for explaining what i was trying to say a bit more clearly. i definitely think that gay couples can be incredible parents! this is a totally different issue in my mind.

I also would never do anything to STOP this transgendered man from having a child, i wouldnt sign a petition or vote for a politician based on that - everyone has the right to be happy

but for me personally, it just doesnt feel right

Agreed. I wouldn't sign bills against it because I dont want it to trickle down to gay people in general who might have their rights taken from them. When my SIl and Erin have kids I plan to be an auntie and don't care where the kids come from-they'll be ny nephews and nices period, just as my kids will call them Aunt Erin and Aunt Lauren. I just think the transgendered issue is a much trickier one, especially when children are involved because as tolerant as adults can be, kids are not so much and they are cruel for YEARS..adulthood doesn't come quick or easy.

And this is what I love about you girls. Even if you personally disagree with something, you respect another's right to it. I think that the opposite is a big problem in our country...in the world right now. It's one thing to hold a different opinion, or a different lifestyle, it's another to deny another person that same right. It is not for us to dictate another person's life (or the government, for that matter, but I'll get off my soapbox now, LOL).
