My new dress is "in" (But it's not the dress I wanted at all!) long (NOW WITH PICS)

I don't know if you girls remember this, but I posted a couple of months ago that i'd be getting a new dress...well it turns out that's not the case at all, i'll have to stick with my old dress Here's the story:

When I first started dress shopping, I went with my aunt and my mother..from the very beginning, I had my heart set on an eve of milady but I couldn't bring myself to spend $5000 on a dress that i'd be wearing for one day...I don't have a problem with others doing it, but I knew that I personally couldn't handle that expense because I just graduated from college and I'm not exactly swimming in money...so, I went with a mary's dress that is beautiful, but not exactly my style...

Several months later, my aunt tells me that she secretly ordered the eve of milady dress for me and that she is going to have it shipped to me...well girls, I just got it, and it is NOT the eve of milady that I loved!! I'm guessing it's a failed attempt at a replica.....To be perfectly honest, the dress looks like crap! It's made of a linen-like fabric and it's uneven, and the train is just wrong....EVERYTHING IS WRONG! It also has an odd smell...There is a label on the inside and it's not even in english, it's something in chinese...the dress arrived folded up in a little pouch and the pouch was wrapped up in duct tape

So i'm guessing she must have had it made instead of ordering the real deal? I just don't know what to do, I CAN'T wear this to my wedding! But I don't know how much she spent on this and I don't want to hurt her feelings...what should I do?? I have two dresses that I don't like! I'm guessing i'll just have to have my old dress altered and tweaked until it's more "me"...I don't know..

OH NO i am so sorry, tough dilemma. I agree with wearing your old dress and having it altered.

Can you tell your aunt that the dress does not fight right and they made a mistake when making it or something like that.

wow can you talk to your aunt? Maybe she got dupped! As far as how it came to be personally honest that's how all Wedding dresses come in. My FFIL is in the business and ordered my dress for me and warned me that when I got it that it would look that way. Bridal salons open it and hang it so you don't see it like that. I would ask her though...she could've paid $5000 for an eve of milady and got screwed!

omg, that is awful..so sorry.
i sugges wearing the old one of if you have to - get a new one...have you even looked in david's bridal... an 08 bride posted recently a dress she got there and its gorgeous and i think they can get dresses quickly.

oh no i am so sorry to hear that you are in this rough situation i know you don't know how to approach her without having anyones feelings hurt but i am sure if she sees it she would be just as disapointed and unsatisfied from your description it doesnt sound sound salvageable maybe there is a way it can be returned i mean it doesnt meet your expectations this manufacturer has to be aware you can't be the first to feel this way after receiving a dress in that type of condition- i hope it works out for you i remember the other dress and even though you don't think it is you it is gorgeous

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. Hopefully you can talk it over with your aunt. Maybe there is a way you can sell both dresses on craigslist or on here and get the dress you really want. I'm not even sure if that's somethign you'd entertain but I thought I'd put it out there!

I agree that you will look fabulous with whatever you where on your special day

I am so sorry. You are in a very uncomfortable situation. You need to talk to your aunt. Be honest. That was soooo sweet of her.

I have an eve dress and I know how much they go for so if she spent that much on a knock of that really would be terrible

I would bring it up to your Aunt, definately....What if she ordered it, thinking it was a real Eve and then they shipped this? If you don't feel comfortable in it- you dont have to wear it and I'm sure she would understand. I think your 1st dress is gorgeous too!!!

OMG, i can't believe the "new" dress you got in the mail looks like that! do you think it's possible your aunt ordered it thinking it was the actual eve dress? i know i've heard of some bridal shops who do actually order the knock off, not the actual thing. i hope she didn't get ripped off!!! the eve dress is gorgeous, but your original dress is beautiful too!! i think you're gonna have to tell your aunt about this.

you see your original dress made such an impression that i remembered it in detail (of course not that it matters what i think) i never seen packaging like that before on a dress something is definitely not right

I agree you will have to talk to your aunt, her heart was certainly in the right place and she will see you're not wearing the dress and I'm sure she'd want to know so she can try to get her money back!

Now have you gone and tried on your 1st dress again yet? When you have it on maybe you'll love it again... a lot of brides seem to go through having doubts about their 1st choice and end up loving it again when they put it back on... otherwise like you said, if you still dont kove it I'm sure your seamstress with help make it into something you love!!

wow! i cant believe that happened! that is horrible! the new dress looks nothing like the picture

i really do love your first dress a lot! the train isn't really my style, but it's detachable, right? you dont need to worry about bustling it...

you could also make it strapless and it would look beautiful.

hopefully you can figure tihngs out with your aunt too
