Major Rant - sort of wedding related...

I have a huge rant ladies. My mom and I were supposed to fly to Charlotte to see my sister for her birthday weekend. I left work early to get to the airport with time to spare and when we were sitting at the gate we saw that the flight was delayed an hour... okay, no problem flights are always delayed.

A while past the new departure time someone at the American Airlines gate said that there was a maintainance problem that should only take up to a half hour. More than a half hour later, they announce the flight is CANCELLED! So we had to wait on a line for like over an hour. When it was finally our turn it took at least another twenty minutes for them to help us. They told us we needed to go get our luggage and take a bus to another airline where we would fly to Philly and then to Charlotte. It was 5:45 and the flight to Philly was supposed to board at 6:30! So we had to run to get our luggage, scramble to find a bus, and quickly get to the US Airways terminal where they told us the flight American Airlines booked for us DID NOT EXIST! So we had to take our luggage back on the bus to American where they gave us the run around for over an hour. My mom was crying, I was beyond pissed and finally we just said screw it since they couldn't find a flight for us. So they refunded our money. While all of this was happening, not only was I running around with all my bags but also a tiramisu that I was bringing for my sister for her birthday since it's her favorite.

So we got home and I decided I'd drive to North Carolina. Thirteen exhausting hours later (Saturday morning) we arrived here! Phew!!!


Rant here is - don't fly American Airlines!!!! Imagine this being your honeymoon that you CAN'T get to because of these stupid people! They were so unaccomodating! Terrible!

OMFG!!!!! i can't believe you experienced that. i'm SO sorry. they should have given you your money and back AND free flights to use at a later date. ugh.

ugh! I dont know how you didnt totally go off on those people! Not only should have have refunded your money but they should have paid you for all your trouble! I never knew AA was such a terrible airline!

OMG! After all that - I couldn't even bring it down here!!! It wouldn't have survived a thirteen hour ride without refrigeration! And that sucker was expensive - $25! I hope fh is enjoying it this weekend!

thats annoying...it happened to my FMIL and FSIL recently. they were flying to Bermuda and their flight was delayed, then cxl'ed so the airline shuttled them back to their house (from JFK to Copiague) then picked them back up later for their flight...they were pissed!

thats terrible! but this happens with all airlines. i flew jetblue this summer and was stuck in the airport for 9 hours! thats right. we were the first flight cancelled, and then instead of rebooking all the passengers on our flight first, they booked everyone else. originially they gave me a 6:30pm flight home when my flight was at 8:30 in the morning! after i noticed people coming back with flights leaving at 12, 1pm i went up and threw a fit and magically we were on the "first flight out", but again, that didnt leave till 7pm that night. on top of all of that jetblue, lost our luggage, and when we finally got it back, the workers went into our bags and took out all the alcohol we had purchased and exchanged it with water. can you imagine?

the bottom line is write them letters and make phone calls!! i wrote jet blue letters, and called and left messages every hour because NO ONE wanted to call me back. i even i sent a letter to jfk, i was FURIOUS. in the end i got over $400 worth of vouchers to fly anywhere.

my grandma flies jetblue all the time, and shes never had a problem. i think all airlines have days like this, but use it to your advangtage! take everything you can get for their screwup!

I am not a fan of American Airlines! My family and I went to Hawaii a few years back and they had us on the plane for 3 hours with no AC no drinks in TEXAS in July!!!! It was during one of there heat waves so it was so bad. they wouldnt let us off. There was so problem with the plane. So finally we got off the plane. They gave us vouchers for food in the airport but we had like no time because they wanted us back on the plane. So then we get on the plane it leaves but by the time we got to Hawaii it was to late to fly to the island we were staying at and they had us stay in a horrible motel.

Needless to say I believe my parents got a lot of money back from them!!!!! It was so horrible.

FH had a big problem but it was more with the weather than AA....

Our e-party was a Sat so he took off early from work Fri to take a direct flight that would get him into NY at 7pm. He called me when he was supposed to be boarding and said his flight was CANCELLED because they closed LGA due to clouds or a storm or something!

It was too close to catch any of the JFK flights and everyone was scrambling for a way into NY. He ended up getting the last seat on a connection to Dallas, due to get in to Newark at midnight (2 hours from my house). My parents told him to take it. He got into Dallas on time but was delayed 2 more hours on the second leg, so he got into Newark after 2am. We got back to my house around 4. E-party started at 11.

I was bawling the entire night thinking he wouldnt be able to make it and that i didnt want to go to our e-party w/out him and my sister (MOH) was calling the airlines telling them her fiance was on the plane and her wedding was the next day and he needed to get to NY.

This is part of why I'm happy to have a Sunday wedding. People can fly in Fri night or Sat AM without cutting it this close!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ang I am sooo sorry to hear that. But on the bright side you got to go and see your sis for her b-day and meadow as well. And now you know never to use that airline. As for Mike I am sure he is loving that cake right now,LOL. Have a good time and enjoy!!!

wow... that's ridiculous! i can't believe that they did that to you! you guys are too good for driving after all that! i hope that you have a great time anyway, and that they compensate you somehow!

Awww, wow- I apologize for your troubles. I HATE flying and airports and anything air travel related. At least you're down there even though you had to drive.

Thanks girls! It feels good to vent! It's actually a good thing we wound up driving - I got a ton of stuff for the house and for the engagement party! I would have never been able to fit it all in my suitcase and get it on the plane!

Thanx for the warning! We never fly AA because no one in my family have ever had any luck with them. It's always cancellations, delays, losing luggage,problems with landing gear and haing to land in another airport.............Ahhhhhhh and Ailtalia is even worse then AA

But Continental, Jet Blue, and British Airways are fantastic they are accomodating!!!
